Sh*t You May Have Missed While Bidding Farewell To Golden Palm

It’s Sh*t You May have Missed for the week ending October 28th….

Hey, all BigAZMarty here with this weeks news about our favorite place, Las Vegas!!!

1. Bonanza Gift Shop has been sold for $50M…to the person who sold those two little shops between Mermaids and Glitter Gulch to the Stevens. Read LVRJ here. That comes into play with another story later on.missed

2. Interesting story about a company in North Las Vegas that manufactures a ton of hotel key cards and gift cards…who knew? Read LVRJ here.

3. Uh-oh, after charges were dropped against the Chinese housekeepers acting as shills for High Rollers at Venetian/Palazzo. LV Sands Corp is being inquired on about it by Control Board Agents. That is a major backfire from suing to collecting debts. Read LVRJ here.

4. LVRJ is also reporting that the MGM Resort‘s CEO is pushing for an NBA team to be in Las Vegas within five years. Read here.Misserd

5. Neonopolis to host an E-sports arena in mid-late Nov. time frame, according to LVRJ. Yup…read here.  “Sorry, I just don’t want to see someone play a video game”…says old girlfriend, back in the 1980’s. So what has changed…or has it at all?

6. Golden Entertainment‘s PT bars are getting new video table games from Starbar. Read LVRJ here. I think this goes against what the millennials want (i.e. social experiences), so not sure how that will go over. If it’s an older crowd that doesn’t care, it will do well…but may have a declining return as millennials age and ignore these games.

7. Holy cow, three of the top magician acts in play are in Las Vegas, two are at MGM properties, and one is off-Strip at the Rio. Read LVRJ here.

8. Caesars Entertainment has made another deal this time to hold out Trilogy Capital Management. That leaves just the National Retirement Fund (pension funding) and the U.S. Government to sign off (as well as everyone else as the time to sign RSA has been extended again). Read LVRJ here.Missed

9. LVRJ has an article here about how activists including PETA have stopped casinos from having wild animals as part of the casino draw (Resorts World has tabled the Panda Exhibit). Perhaps casinos can convince PETA to have their faux fur models double as go-go dancers to get back some entertainment draw money.

10. LVRJ has some Park Theater shots in the Kats article here. Check the gallery…no seat is more than 150 ft back from the stage. LV Sun covers it as well via Las Vegas Weekly here and has an equally good gallery.

11. Got $30M? If so, check out this SkySide property (real estate marketing to say maybe NFL players from Oakland?). For some reason, I see this property and think it’s going to be a future Party Pad from “Ballers” on HBO.

12. LV Sun covers Morimoto‘s opening at MGM Grand here.Missed

13. Las Vegas Weekly has a unique story on how Lucky Dragon came to be (that space was going to be a second Allure tower at one time)…read here. Interesting that the Allure Tower people can walk straight in. Talk about finding a market with free cash flow.

14. Remember item #1? Well, Vital Vegas has the flip side of that, as well as covering that the Stevens have purchased the lot on the Plaza Hotel side of Main Street where the railroad cars are parked…read here. It sounds like a really really big plan, and we all hope to see it soon. I don’t think they’ve imploded on the Fremont Street Experience before.  Knocked down, yes (La Bayou)…but full implosion? No.Missed

15. Vital Vegas also has two items to make you smile….no more Dick’s Last Resort signage where Merlin the Wizard used to be. And, the pink elephant has received some “maintenance love” near the Welcome To Las Vegas sign. Read about both here.

16. For those gents or ladies who had Bachelor or Bachelorette parties planned at Olympic Gardens, you are completely out of luck…it’s closed. Read Vital Vegas here. You know….maybe the casinos can open their own, so you never leave the resort. Think of the money to be made there!!!! Convert all those nightclubs/dayclubs to Strip clubs (both male/female) and it really becomes Sin City. You wouldn’t even need to change the bottle service/VIP pricing plus you’d get a cut of the “performers’ tips.” (Editor’s note – OG website is touting a new location).

17. Vital Vegas has re-visited Monte Carlo to get construction updates (we covered earlier this month). At night, it will for sure seem like that top of the building will be “floating” with that black paint. Read here.Missed

18. Eater Vegas has news of the Caesars Palace Seahorse Lounge re-do….disappointing news to read here. I guess my wife will be on the hunt for a new place to get a killer Strawberry Daiquiri with Malibu Rum comp’d. This was by far her favorite VP bar up to about a year ago (they changed VP machines and no more mixer drinks).

19. Eater Vegas has all the drinks and food for Halloween’ers. Plan your weekend by checking it out here.Missed

20. Edge Vegas through TravelZork and then to a Katz Instagram has a “new fee” at The Palms.  If you are a non-registered “visiting” patron and need to store something at the Bell Desk, it will now cost you…see here. I take this to mean if you are checked out of your room (and at that point are “non-registered”), they will charge you $$$ to store your bags until you are ready to get to the airport via ground transportation.

That’s it for other news, now to our editor-in-chief Michael Movestro and our stuff.

  1. Love your articles but surprised there was no mention of MGM raising their resort fees again.

    1. Somewhere somehow in the past I thought I’d mentioned it but it was one of those I read and forgot about. VegasMessageBoard has the updates here and it’s not all MGM properties:

      http://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/index.php?threads/mgm-resorts-increasing-resort-fees.135925/

The surprise is Circus Circus which isn’t even an MLife property….all of the listed ones increased $3 a night pre-tax. So far I think the Luxor and Excalibur fees are almost or more than the non-event nights during the weeknight rates.

Anything to not effect those web prices!!!!

  2. PS- What happened to Golden Palm? Did they finally tear that eye soar down? Since the 15 to 95 north is shut down, I have to take the 215 to Summerlin everyday now so can not look over there very easily.

    1. Yes…if you check the one I posted on Monday item #31 and click the link in there you can see a Facebook video from Las Vegas Advisor on it coming down. Weird that no word really went out on the demo day.

Also congrats on those TORUK tix, sorry about the parking fee’s (never fun).
