Fremont Street Construction Updates
LasVegasJunkie shares construction updates from Fremont Street.
@LasVegasJunkie here freshly back from a 4-day trip to my favorite place on earth, Las Vegas. More specifically, Downtown Las Vegas. It was a great trip capped off by multiple great wins on Buffalo Deluxe, Wheel of Fortune, and blackjack but I digress, the purpose of this article is to update you and all the other Las Vegas fanatics out there on all the construction projects going on under the Fremont Street Experience canopy. Here are a few fresh new pictures and observations for you to salivate over:
Expansion of the oldest casino in town is progressing at a steady pace; two stories worth of steel beams have been fully erected at the former La Bayou Casino site (above photos) and the additional 25’ feet of expansion will be completely seamless from the outside façade. The first floor will add an additional 100 slot machines, bringing their slot machine total to just fewer than 500. The second floor will be utilized as some sort of liquor storage supply room for the bars located on the property. Golden Gate Casino & Hotel hopes to have the expansion complete and ready by August 2017.
Three million dollars’ worth of construction upgrades are well underway at the corner of 328 Fremont Street and 107 N. 4th Street, also known as the future home of White Castle. The 6,500ft² footprint will be divided into two separate lots; the larger lot at 3,400ft² will be the aforementioned White Castle and the remaining 3,100ft² will be the newly configured Harley-Davidson retail shop. This will be the second white castle location located in Las Vegas; the original opened inside of Casino Royale on the Las Vegas strip in 2015 and served up a whopping +50,000 burgers over its first twelve hours of operation. Expect the new downtown location to make its debut in the fall of 2017.
Construction crews are working at a feverish pace to complete the newest attraction to the Fremont Street Experience, the “Fear the Walking Dead” walkthrough experience. The new Fremont Street Experience attraction, expected to open in July, will be located between Hennessey’s Tavern and Walgreen’s. Construction permits submitted earlier this year indicate the budget for this project is $1.2-million dollars. Visitors can expect a healthy dose of part thrill-ride, part escape room, part haunted house, and part interactive video game with a revolving storyline.
Last but not least is the lack of construction progress at the former home of Beer Garden [or is it Bier Garten?] at the Plaza Hotel & Casino. Beer Garden never formally announced its closure and word from Plaza PR is that Beer Garden is “Closed for renovations”; that’s corporate talk for “We don’t know what we’re doing and it’s none of your business”. The 3,000ft² Beer Garden offered German-inspired food, microbrews, and imported beers in an indoor-outdoor European-inspired space. Rumor has it that an 800-foot, 30 MPH Go-Cart track has been proposed for the outdoor space.
I’ll be back in town in August and if all goes well I might squeeze in a trip before then. I look forward to documenting and sharing the changes of our favorite city… Las Vegas!

the pickle ball courts at the Plaza are empty most of the time, I would say at least 90 % of the time or more. they need to start planning on what to do with that big waste of space.
I liked the beer garden at night. It was a great place to sit, have a beer, smoke a cigar and people watch.
Great job and insight to whats going on. I haven’t been downtown since 2015, but with some of the changes I might have to plan a trip downtown to get away from the 6/5 blackjack on the strip.
anything new on the Las Vegas Club, and The Gentlemans Club space? The Pickle Ball court was a waste of space from the start ! Should have made the pool bigger !!
The Plaza could not have made the pool bigger. The building is 46 years old and the structure could not have supported a larger pool.
There is a great interview with Derek Stevens about the developments on that block on this week’s Vital Vegas Podcast.
