Ten Reasons Why I love Binion’s

Binion’s, what is it about that casino that no matter where I am staying, I always end up spending time there?

I am not saying I neglect my home hotel. I am a firm believer in “playing where I am staying”, but inevitably I wind up doing some wandering when I am downtown, and I frequently wind up at Binion’s. I am analyzing the reasons for this.

1. I enjoy the way the entire side of Binion’s is open to the street. I enjoy the fresh air and the feeling of being connected to the craziness of Fremont.

2. Binion’s outside facade is gorgeous. That brilliant blue is stunning and immediately recognizable.

3. I like the size of the casino. There are lots of interesting nooks and crannies to stick your nose into. It has an unpretentious charm.

4. A feeling of history permeates Binion’s. You can walk through the room where the World Series of Poker began. I am somewhat dismayed to see that room partially turned into a discount T-shirt shop, and yet I always end up buying something there!

5. I like the quirkiness. The pool on the roof, while often windy, has a gorgeous view of the valley. I imagine there might be legal issues, but I wish that Binion’s would do tours of the closed hotel and other parts of the hotel that are normally not open to the public. I would pay for that!

6. Where else can you get your picture taken for free with a million dollars?

7. I adore Benny’s BBQ! Their ribs are a must do on every trip.

8. I appreciate the variety of slot machines. They seem to have a little bit of everything, old and new. My favorites are the nickel video poker slant-tops. I hate upright machines; they are so uncomfortable to sit at for long periods. I also enjoy their Wheel Poker machines, and I don’t know anywhere else that has them.

9. I think Binion’s player’s club (Club Binion’s) system is genius. The fact that is fairly easy to accrue enough points to spin the wheel for prizes is a great incentive. And, their rewards are immediate. You don’t have to wait three months to see whether or not the casino has deemed you worthy of getting a food comp. Often when I take a turn at their “Spin to Win” wheel I win “$10 off at the coffee shop.” which is a nice perk. So guess what? I wind up eating at Binion’s and spending more time there. If the point of a slot club is to get people into your casino and keep them there, then the Binion system works.

10. I like that they are part of the Las Vegas Advisor coupon book. It is a smart move on their part. The coupons get me in the door; the appealing casino keeps me there.

Don’t be surprised if you are visiting Binion’s and you see me camped out at a Nickel Video Poker slant-top.

  1. I love Binions. I have never stayed there but that’s where I always end up spending a good portion of my time on Fremont Street is in Binions.

  2. Hi Billie! Me too!
And I just thought of another one….

    11. I love the way they will give you potato salad with your Binion’s burger instead of boring old fries! Yum!

  3. I love the deli. The corned beef, pastrami, and brisket sandwiches are all awesome!

  4. The one thing that my wife and I must do when we play Downtown is hit the Wheel Poker machines. They’re probably our favorite thing about Downtown!

  5. I agree with everything in the article! We do most of our eating at Binions while in Vegas. My wifes favorite is the brisket sandwich from the deli, mine is the bbq combo. Most of our slot play is at Binions because of the variety and the comps. Binions is also my first choice for poker tournaments. We will be back in three weeks!

  6. It’s my favorite place downtown. No doubt about it. I wouldn’t leave the property at all for an entire weekend if the rooms were still open. I guarantee it.

  7. And another shoutout to Benny’s BBQ. Loved it when it was the Bullpen. Still dig it now. Although I do miss the couches. The staff is pretty great and we’ve made some life-long friends in that spot.

  8. I too have always wandered into Binion’s. Something about that place. I wish I’d stayed there before the hotel closed, but with the reopening of the old Lady Luck and makeover of Fitzgeralds perhaps now the economic climate downtown may be such that reopening the hotel and keeping rooms under $100/night on the wkd would turn out to be a good move??

  9. I like the baby back ribs dinner and that is about it. nothing else compelling enough to make me hang out there after stuffing my face. if they ever open the hotel rooms again I might give that a try.

  10. Yep. I play my favorite slot machine at Binion’s every day of every trip to earn the daily points for at least two spins of the prize wheel. I always chant, “One, one, one, one…” when the wheel is spinning. lol Can’t beat cold, hard cash! The wheel hasn’t landed on “1” for me… yet. I’ve landed on the $25 in gaming chips prize at least three times.

I also do the free spin for $2,500 each day and play the free battle bonus game. One time on the battle bonus game, I earned enough points for that day’s Level 1 or Level 2 prize.

  11. Binion’s steak house at the top of Binion’s is amazing. Great food, great staff, relaxed atmosphere and amazing views. Best steak I have ever eaten.

  12. I love Binion’s! I was in Vegas the last week of February (2016); stayed at Fremont (which was great), but would have been in Binion’s if the rooms were open (please open soon!!!) Love the atmosphere, the variety of machines – mostly draw poker for me. Met friendly players and staff – staff person, Jackie was awesome and another staff person, John! Also, Carl Ferris – safesax.com – is outside Binion’s and is there nightly – he’s wonderful! Love my time in Vegas and Binion’s makes it the best! Thank you!
