Vegas Bright Looks Back: The Most Overhyped of 2016

Vegas Bright writers look back on the year and give their picks for the Most Overhyped of 2016

Editor’s note: We’ve asked our writers and contributors for their opinions on the best/worst and noteworthy of all things Vegas for 2016 if they had time. Unlike other sites, a list of options to choose from was not given. Instead, a list of categories was presented letting our staff write their answers freely. With that, here are their answers for Vegas’ Most Overhyped of 2016

The Chandelier Bar at Cosmopolitan–Sure it’s pretty but usually super crowded. The cocktail menu needs more variety, too. – Michele Di Palma

Zumanity– The advertising for this show is everywhere! I think they have to advertise just to get butts in the seats. – Fisherman

Morimoto Restaurant. That being said, still going to try it out. –Matty Ice

Morimoto Las Vegas

Carl Icahn’s Fontainebleau supposedly being sold, CBRE still hasn’t sold it for Carl. –BigAzMarty

No Name Given. A certain talentless lip-syncing stiff-dancing fraud who has no right whatsoever to be on a Vegas stage…or any stage. Runner-up: Mariah Carey. Caesars has to regret making a deal with this devil. Don’t let the door hit your double-wide on the way out, Miss Thang. Buh bye…. –Sammasseur

The Resorts World project. Every so often, Genting Group out of Malaysia (owners) will post some BS on their FB page showing a water truck or excavator driving around on the site and give the message “coming soon!”  They like to boast about the completion of the parking garage last year…(yawn). The garage was already half-built by the old Echelon project. Completing it merely adds to the property value–which means Genting can use that as a plus if they decide to simply flip the property and do nothing. Until we see some construction crane appear on the skeletons of the incomplete towers, NOTHING is going to happen there.  Nada….zip….zilch. My guess? They are going to sit back and watch the Lucky Dragon closely for six months and see how this much-smaller Asian-themed resort performs. If Lucky Dragon lives up to its name, we MIGHT see some real work at Resorts World. If not, expect to see the property up for sale again (just like the Fontainebleau). –Greg C

You May Have Missed

Eggslut at the Cosmopolitan.  Disclosure, I don’t like eggs and haven’t willingly had egg (not including those snuck into potato salad posing as mustard and onions) in over 30 years. But that’s not my issue with Eggslut. First is the name; just because you CAN call it, that doesn’t mean you should. Secondly – and more importantly – its just another sandwich. And no sandwich is good enough to garner the buzz that Eggslut has received. –Michael James

Eggslut

Isn’t being over-hyped part of being located in Vegas? :-) –Gennadius

People know that Terry Fator is just dad jokes and puppets, right? -Kelly Lamrock

Improved parking experience.” I’m just gonna leave that right there. -Michael Movestro

  1. WHATTTT to Mariah??? I’m an 80’s baby but the 90’s raised me so I wasn’t excited when a younger cuz told me to check her out since him and his partner were going to the show. They are 90’s babies so Mariah is their era. Janet Jackson is mine. Mariah was AHHH MAZING!!!. Hit every note. Didn’t act ditzy. Great show, well put together. Dancers were great. Started on time. My husband told me pick my lip off the floor. She really does have alot of hits. Hubs wanted her to sing all i want for xmas but it was july so that wasnt happening. Britney…. i have nothing to say about that one.

    1. It’s rather telling that you went down the checklist of all the things that Mariah is notorious for: singing off-key, acting ditzy, starting late, etc. Combine that with her penchant for lip-syncing, no-shows, being carried around onstage as if she’s crippled and treating people that work for her like a total b*tch. Well….that sounds like dealing with the Devil to me. She got off to a bad start by pulling a last-minute cancellation during her first week at Caesars, citing bronchitis when insiders know it was because she needed more rehearsal time. Then again, she wasn’t showing up for those rehearsals. Staffers reportedly took a stand against her diva antics and she retaliated by demanding that they be let go. Mariah Carey is a has-been semi-insane dragon-lady and nobody at Caesars will miss her.

      1. Brutal is right. I say give her another chance one day. I once had the same thoughts as you. Have you seen her reality show? It’s really good. It puts her in a better light.

        1. I’ll most certainly pass on wasting my time watching her crazy self-absorbed nonsense. (CNN) “To say that “Mariah’s World” is a predictable train wreck serves more as promotion than criticism. Carey is shown cavorting on a yacht in Capri, Italy, and fretting about agreeing to do the show at all, citing how “little privacy” there is in entertainment. One might ask why she would then agree to the prying eyes of cameras — including footage of her young children. Those who watch such fare for the kitsch factor will have plenty in which to wallow, as Carey conducts most of her direct-to-camera interviews provocatively draped across a couch, looking a bit like Cleopatra being ferried across the Nile”.

          1. Yes yes agreed to being draped across the couch cause that she does but I still say there is more to her and still super talented with some hiccups along the way like most of us. Brit on the other hand…

    2. Oh, Mariah….thank you for making my opinions of you vindicated in the final moments of the year. What a personal gift. #byebyeMariah #epicfail #careerinthetoilet

  2. Sammasseur is brutal….and 100% correct. :D

Resorts World closing is as obvious as Alon closing. Still cant believe people thought Alon had a chance…it was obvious it was run by a bunch of nobodies from the beginning. I wonder what they can build there though…maybe a…STADIUM?!?! hmmmmm

  3. I’m going to say Baz at Venetian. After such an amazing run at MB (I saw it twice), the changes wrought at the new venue make it all but incomprehensible and unwatchable.

  4. Sammasseur is 100% right on about the lip syncing fraud that is Britney S.
We wasted money and time seeing her (notice I said seeing as opposed to hearing) this let summer. She is worst show we have ever seen while in Vegas.

  5. While I understand your points and have felt the same way, I was very impressed with Britney’s show, and I knew she was going to be lip-syncing before I bought my ticket. The production was AMAZING, the sets were so elaborate, the dancers amazing, and even though Britney lip-synced, there was a live band on elevated stages that played every song LIVE and you could hear and tell that they were legitimately playing LIVE, and to me, that made up for her lip-syncing, which wasn’t even really noticeable during the show. It was truly a fun experience, and I recommend any Britney fan to see it. I would see it again, as there is so much visual with the dancing and stage sets, you easily miss details on the first viewing.

  6. SAMMASSEUR SORRY FOR THE HOLD UP RESPONDING TO U, SINCE I HAD TO GET REPAIRS ON MY COMPUTER..HIPE YOU HAD A WONDERFUL HOLIDAYS..SAW MIRE ON THE NEW YORK NEW YEARS PARTY AND SHE WAS A BIG MEISS
