Vegas Musts

LasVegasJunkie’s “Vegas Musts”

Reader LasVegasJunkie shares his “Vegas Musts”

I know I am a little late to the party but here are a few of my mine and my wife’s “Vegas Musts.”

We have stayed at the Downtown Grand for our last six trips to Las Vegas so usually the first thing we do after checking in and dropping off our luggage is walk over to Pizza Rock for a late lunch or early dinner. My recommendation is the St. Anthony Pizza.

One other place we enjoyed visiting during our last few trips was the Beer Garden at the Plaza Hotel & Casino. There’s nothing like sitting outside and having a few beers, playing Jenga, and people watching. Unfortunately during my last trip to Vegas last month I saw that Beer Garden was permanently closed and in the middle of demolition… Does anything last longer than a few years anymore?

On our second day, we like to have breakfast at the Peppermill restaurant. The food is really good, the portions are huge, service is very prompt, and it’s nice to see the same faces every time we go back. The Fire Side Lounge in the back of the restaurant is awesome! It has that classic Vegas old-school feel to it, and a big bonus for me is that a scene from my favorite movie “Casino” was filmed at the Fireside Lounge.

Grabbing lunch at Pink Taco inside of the Hard Rock Hotel is also on our list of Vegas Must. Growing up in the Los Angeles area and also visiting Mexico a few times a year has allowed me to taste some of the world best tacos; I’m not saying Pink Taco is Top 10, Top 25, or even Top 100! What they are is consistently good! The chicken is always cooked to perfection, and our meal always lives up to the last. Pink Taco is nothing fancy-schmancy, but it is mine and my wife’s “place.” Whenever were on the strip we like to stop at Pink’s Hot Dogs and grab a bucket of beers and sit in the outside patio area, and people watch. The later the night gets, the more entertaining the view gets! Very good times had here over the years.

Last but certainly not least we go to the first or second floor of the Chandelier Bar at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and have a few cocktails and play some video Keno. I’m a beer drinker but my wife enjoys cocktails, and the Chandelier Bar is known for creating original and unique mixed drinks and cocktails.

That pretty much sums up mine and my wife’s list of “Vegas Musts”……for now.

  1. Great article. I’ve never stayed at the DT Grand but want to. It looks nice. As for your question – “Does anything last longer than a few years anymore?” Yes. Resort fees and porn slappers.

  2. Glad to see the return of “My Vegas Musts” column! It helps us all plot and plan our next trip, when we can update you upon return!

I too enjoyed Downtown Grand, (and Pizza Rock, and Triple George, and area) and hope to get a few rooms there for my group this summer, if the resort fees don’t continue to rise. Want to finally catch the pool season when it’s open.

  3. Love Peppermill’s ambience, but the seating is tight, literally, for someone of larger size, plus it’s always a long wait and a little pricey for a coffee shop. I’d love to hear more about Downtown Grand, the rooms, comps, parking situation. Is it worth the resort fee? I’m a Main St Station regular but looking for an excuse to try DG.

  4. @NeonGlo and @EnuffBull…. ill take pictures of my room next month and post a Downtown Grand Review. FYI I have a line of credit at the casino so i never pay for a room or resort fee :)
