Vegas Bright Looks Back: The Saddest Closures of 2016

Vegas Bright writers look back on the year and give their picks for the Saddest Closures of 2016

Editor’s note: We’ve asked our writers and contributors for their opinions on the best/worst and noteworthy of all things Vegas for 2016 if they had time. Unlike other sites, a list of options to choose from was not given. Instead, a list of categories was presented letting our staff write their answers freely. With that, here are their answers for Vegas’ Saddest Closures of 2016

I Love Burgers–Best burgers ever! This was my go to lunch and a great place to watch a game. I guess I’ll have to make Bobby’s Burger Palace my new guilty pleasure. –Michele Di Palma

I Love Burgers

Jubilee– Because I never got to see this iconic show. -Fisherman

The Saddest closures, plural. The 26 (so far) shows that are closing this year. I will especially miss Million Dollar Quartet, I really enjoyed that show. -Blonde4ever

Just about every show out there, what a crazy year it’s been! But in all honesty, Jubilee is the saddest closure to me of all those shows. -BigAzMarty

Mermaids Casino on Fremont Street. Downtown Las Vegas will never be the same. Runner-up –  Jubilee! at Bally’s. An institution and the heart of the Strip. Shuttering this legend just felt….very wrong. -Sammasseur

Glitter Gulch

Raiding the Rock Vault at Trop, but good news is it reopens at Hard Rock next year. -Greg C

The Binion’s poker room. As a poker player, playing cards in their iconic poker room made it feel like I had made it… even though the only prerequisite was to pay the $70 entry fee.  The room itself was a dying breed, being an actual room walled off from the casino. Add the legendary photos and you had the makings of a perfect evening of card playing. Sure, they said that the room will still be used for large tournaments and special events, but does anyone really expect that square footage to sit unoccupied for 6-1/2 days per week?  Neither do I. -Michael James

Seahorse Lounge at Caesars Palace – This is kind of an odd one for sure, and it is more for personal sentimental reasons than for anything else. It was a part of Caesars that had been fairly constant while much else around it changed, and it will forever be associated with being a distinctive meeting point for my friends and I over the years. -Gennadius

This year I lost two of my Vegas Musts – Palio Pronto at Bellagio and I Love Burgers at Palazzo. I am clinging to Gallagher’s Steakhouse for dear life. -Michael Movestro

Too many to choose from, but I will miss “Rock Of Ages“. A fun show that didn’t take itself too seriously, yet had sneaky-good musical chops that did the era Justice. -Kelly Lamrock

  1. Great list. Thanks, everyone! I will miss I Love Burgers and the Seahorse Lounge as well. Spouse and I never made it to Jubilee–talked about it for too long and missed it. Mermaids was a walk-by, Sam.

  2. Jubilee, no doubt. Not just because its a little bit of Vegas history gone, but because of the big sign on the side of Ballys on Las Vegas Blvd (you know which one im talkin about!!!).

Walking the Strip just wont be the same any more. :D

  3. No love for Bourbon Room?! Why Venetian thought they needed another place to get overpriced drinks instead of a great concept that was the only of its kind in Vegas is beyond me.
