10 Reasons: Why I Love The D Las Vegas

If you are looking for a fun atmosphere at your Vegas hotel, the D is the place to go.

Here are ten reasons why:

1. They are very generous with their comps. If you give them some decent play, not only do you receive several comped nights with no resort fee, they often add in some food comps and show tickets as well. I always use everything they give me, and I am grateful for it. I love seeing all the shows that the hotel has to offer; Marriage Can Be Murder, Laughternoon, and Defending the Caveman.

2. I have tried all of their food options and enjoyed them all. I had a lovely chopped salad and meatball at Andiamo’s, many delicious breakfasts and dinners at the D Grill, and a caramel nut brownie to die for from American Coney Island. I even like having a McDonald’s so close; you never know when a McFlurry emergency will arise!

3. I like the lively atmosphere in the casino. Mind you; I like it more when I am winning. If I am losing the loud music can give me a headache, but the majority of the time I enjoy it

4. The Vintage floor upstairs is always a fun place to play. Try your luck at some classic machines or bet on the ponies at the famous Sigma Derby horse racing game. The second floor outside deck is a great place to watch the craziness that is Fremont Street.

5. I adore their slot club promotions. They are always running something fun, and I have won extra free play from them.

6. I find the rooms comfortable and stylish. Not fancy, but they have a current, fresh look. I love that the safe is not on the floor. (I am looking at you Four Queens!)

7. You can’t beat the location. The hotel is right in the heart of Fremont Street just a few steps from live bands, other casinos, tourist attractions like the Mob Museum and Slotzilla and so much more.

8. During one of my stays we received a recorded message from the owner, Derek Stevens. In it, he was describing some of the events that were occurring and giving us other useful information. I thought it was a lovely touch. I almost felt like we were old friends by the time the message ended. I have never encountered that in another hotel.

9. The staff has always been pleasant and accommodating; especially the bell staff. I needed some guidance in where to stand to meet a shuttle and they walked me right across the street to show me the correct location.

10. Last but not least, in my last five trips I have consistently won more at the D than any other downtown casino. That alone is enough to keep me coming back for more!

  1. Thanks for the info, blonde4ever! Going to vegas in 58 days and was considering going to the D one day during the trip. Caesars has been cutting back on their comps and freeplay so its good to know the D properly rewards you for spending. If i could get free room and limo transpertation, like i do at planet hollywood, i would consider staying there. Even though we spend way more then we are comped, i appreciate the feeling of being taken care of. Personal contact is now hone from CET!

  2. we also enjoy the D. never stayed but played .25 vp at the long bar and vue. Roy the bartender from Hawaii was one of the most friendly, polite and nice service people i have met. only thing i didn’t like is the fact that they won’t comp top shelf for only .25 max play vp. still gave us best they could. it won’t keep us from visiting them again.

  3. I agree with everything in this article but I am no longer booking The D because of the exorbitant resort fee. We usually stay 7-8 days and the charge (in excess of $21.00 per day) pushes the rate well above those of other hotels downtown that are not charging this fee. We will still come and gamble a the D but I think that the amount of playing there is significantly lower than when we stayed there.

  4. Had to tripadvisor the D and I must say the rooms looks AHHH- MAZING!! Who knew? Would love to plug the city that the Coney Island amusement park is in but I won’t before Mike gets me. Anything with yummy food I’m all over it. Heard good things about Andiamo’s but never tried. May have to give it a whirl next time. They say if it’t not broke don’t fix it hence y I often frequent Twin Creeks Steakhouse @ Silverton. Which I believe I found out from VC but I can’t recall.

  5. While I like Blonde4ever, The D has to be the most over rated Las Vegas property. Derek S is a nice guy, but that does not translate to running a great property. Still a lot of room for improvement over there. Do yourself a favor and go to DTG or GN for a downtown visit. I present 10 Reasons: Why I don’t like The D Las Vegas

    1) The comps are Meh. Outside of some initial free play my VP play has gotten little return and match play has dried up. Getting better DTG comps right now. Room offers are discounted rates.
    2) Food options are not that exciting. Outside of Andiamo’s (which is great) the rest
of the dining is so so. D Grill has good food, but spotty service. Hot Dogs, no thanks.
Better food next door at Golden Nugget.
    3) I don’t like the atmosphere in the casino. Music volume that will make you deaf,
second hand cigarette smoke in the air that would choke a horse, dark corners, and small casino cage means longer waits.
    4) The Vintage floor upstairs used to be fun place to play. They got rid of all the coin
droppers and replaced them with old crappy slots from Riveria. The very cool Sigma Derby is always full. Good luck getting quarters for Sigma Derby, my last two visits the coin changer was out of quarters.
    5) Not very exciting slot club promotions. CET is giving me daily slot tournaments, gift points for holiday shopping, and party invites. The D Pass..
    6) I find the rooms boring, lacking style and cheaply furnished. Not as bad as Motel 6, but they are small and have cheap Walmart style furniture. Seriously I have seen Days Inns with more inspiring rooms. Take a hint from your neighbors (Golden Nugget, Downtown Grand, and Plaza) upgrade the rooms.
    7) Can’t beat the strip with its location. Downtown has not quite gotten ridden of all the undesirables.
Being so close to Fremont Street Experience you better bring your ear plugs. Not alot of variety of properties downtown. If low rolling grind joints are you thing, this is your place.
    8) Sticky slot buttons turn me off. Floor personel need to do a better job at cleaning the cigarette ashes and spilled drinks off the slots buttons. Only Circus Circus does a worst job.
    9) The pool is a major disappointment. Even the concrete deck looks shabby.
    10) I have never had a winning session. All those great VP paytables don’t translate to wins.
0 for 5 the past two years for quads and royals. Give me the CET 7/5 and occasional Royal Flush.

  6. Great article as usual, Blonde! Love the ‘D’ and have to thank you for introducing me to the rooms, play, comps, and fun atmosphere after a shaky start with them when they first opened. (The Halloween Kitty incident… ;-) )

  7. Love the Vintage floor! Had a 4 hour session at Sigma Derby once (great way to meet new friends).

  8. I love The D, but I don’t have much luck there. However, my presence seems to bring other people luck. Case in point: last Friday I was upstairs at the Vue Bar and the woman sitting next to me hit a quad, then 4 aces (no kicker), then a progressive royal, then aces with a kicker – all on the same machine within 45 minutes! Another time I was there the person next to me hit a royal. My time will come someday :)

  9. Hey Blonde4Ever (1) That’s a great list. (2) I had comments on your TITO story from awhile back, but I guess that thread closed. :-( (3)Every time I see one of your articles I want to ask when your next Vegas trip is, so I can try to cross paths with you, but only if you agree to (4) let me sit on the *other* side of smooth899 !!!
