So it Begins: Caesars Conducting Surveys at Parking Garages

*Sigh* Here we go!

Reddit users on the Las Vegas subreddit have reported being surveyed by security at parking structures for The LINQ and Flamingo. Speculation is that Caesars is getting a feel for who parks there and why, as a study for a possible plan to charge for parking, like MGM Resorts. Which we kinda said would happen.

Per Redditer TwisterII

All cars headed into the Flamingo and Linq self-park garages are being stopped by security and being asked a survey of questions:

  • “What is the purpose of your visit today?”
  • “Are you a member of Total Rewards?”
  • “What is your tier status?”

A Caesars staffer replied with the following:

OK, I work for Caesar’s Ent. and I asked a coworker about this… DISCLAIMER: I CANT CONFIRM THIS IS FACT, IT’S JUST INNER CIRCLE RUMORS AND RUMBLINGS ATM.

Because MGM decided to start the pay for Valet and Parking, Caesar’s wants to make sure their lots aren’t going to be filled by MGM patrons and Parking overnight. Still no idea what this means for locals, probably not much, but because of the mess MGM is starting, Caesar’s needs to make sure they don’t get stuck with the burden. There, at this time, doesn’t appear to be any interest in parking fees from the Caesar’s end.

Which was immediately doubted by another user in the following comment.

I would believe this, except they haven’t started charging for parking yet, so if their sole intention was to make sure they weren’t getting filled by MGM patrons trying to avoid parking fees, it wouldn’t make sense to be doing it now. My guess is they’re trying to figure out who parks there, and determine what type of revenue they could get if they started charging too.

What do you think? Sound off in the comments below.

  1. Hmmm….I don’t see that there should be too much concern on CET’s part if their lots are being filled by MGM customers. Would this not mean that those same customers are now going to be going into CET properties to spend their money? Granted some people will park and walk over to MGM properties, but overall I’d think CET execs would see full parking lots as a gain.

  2. i was already told to expect cet to follow in mlife foot steps by charging for parking they have no choice

  3. if I were CET I would be happy to let them park for free and hope they drop some of their money in the casino before they get to their MGM destination. in fact, I would advertise the free parking. a parked car may fetch $10, but if that car has 2 3 or 4 passengers, you could gain a lot more than that if they stop to gamble, eat, or drink. should be a no-brainer for CET.

  4. Not to mention a lot of the Caesars properties aren’t really located next to MGM properties….I know if I go out of my way to park CET, then my lazy ass will be playing CET.

    1. Exactly, so between the distance, and avoiding the MGM parking fee but paying for another means of transportation, it wouldn’t make sense for MGM customers to park there. If they do, might as well stay awhile

  5. No doubt they will be advertising free parking.
Just like they did when they advertised “No Resort Fees”.
That is until they told us their patrons demanded Resort Fees

  6. I can write it now.
Coming soon a Caesars press release…..
We at Caesars listen to our customers. We hear you loud and clear with your demands for an improved parking experience.
And for a modest fee……..blah,blah, blah

  7. I usually don’t have a car myself in Vegas. But friends that are local and/or other people I travel usually do. I can see a lot less traveling or being on a main strip property because of that.

It really just puts a damper with these parking fees – especially if they are separate from “Resort Fees”. I can see if I meet up some locals they will steer clear eating or visiting at a resort when they can go off strip for free.

  8. if theyre not looking forward to taking on the mgm cars, why not implement a parking pass or validation to hang from the mirror (once you check in) so when your car is there overnight its nothing to worry and once you leave (or go in and out) they know youre a guest there at the casino.

if theyre gonna play monkey see monkey do thatd be ridiculous. as it is our “free” rooms for 3 nights is an automatic $80 for resort fees and taxes. i know $80 for three nights isnt bad but my father and i used to get comp rooms all the time. i guess you can say we were spoiled. now its much harder to do so and we gamble just as much if not more to see if we can still get them which i repeat at least for us is getting harder to come by so an additional $10 for parking per night is adding insult to injury.

if i remember right at the time, harrah’s began the “no resort fee” advertising and it was wonderful. i dont imagine anyone truly living up to the amenities you have to justify the resort fee. like us we dont use the gym or wifi nor anything else. i guess times are changing and vegas is becoming more and more upscale than it used to be..

  9. i think the killer about the resort fees and any other fee is theres no stark visual improvement. the one time i did use the wifi it was SO bad so slow. so i can only imagine “oh the nominal fee for parking is to improve the structure” which i can see months down the line they probably would not have even repainted the lines or repaired any elevators or signage.
