Uber and Lyft Offering First Ride Deals

Ride-hailing companies Uber and Lyft want you to enjoy your first Vegas ride with them, so they’re both offering deals. While looking through our twitter followers (two of them being Uber and Lyft) I noticed both companies jockeying for future customers via discount codes. Although we’ve been told never to hop into a stranger’s car if they promise candy, Uber and Lyft do sweeten the deal.

Lyft is offering a free first ride using the code: TheStrip

From Las Vegas Lyft twitter

“1st ride in Vegas/Reno FREE w/ promo code THESTRIP • Get it at  • Text LYFT to (862) 438-5938 & get an app link straight to your phone.”

Uber is offering $20 off your first ride using the code: htmke

Uber deal
From Uber Vegas Twitter

“UBER is now in Las Vegas. Use UBER promo code ‘htmke’ for $20 off your first ride.”

When it comes to easy to remember codes, we’re gonna tip our hat to Lyft.

With Uber’s promotion, we did wonder “What if the cost of your first ride is less than $20?” Say it’s $18 or $7, what then? You might be asking what difference it makes. Well if the ride comes out to $17 bucks, do we pay $17 bucks. Or does the ride have to equal an amount over $20 to get the discount? We like specifics. We reached out to Uber for a response and they told us if the first ride is below $20, it’s free. If it’s higher than $20, then take $20 off.

Our very own Blonde4ever will get a first-hand experience riding with both ride-hailing services during her stay in Vegas this week and has promised a review sometime after she gets back.

The companies have been operating legally in Nevada since September.

  1. Love Uber. No chance of being long hauled I don’t think since you get an estimate of the ride but then again the driver and still take you whatever route he wants.

  2. I will have a Canadian phone in Vegas so need to find a WIFI spot. Does anyone have a good location on the strip that has free WIFI?

    1. Martin: I got a Roam Mobility account & SIM card which I just swap in when in US.Talk, text & data plans are about $4 a day, so not bad.

  3. It was news to me, but all the Caesars Entertainment properties I visited last week had free WIFI now in their lobbies that extends beyond their front doors. I called Lyft from both Bally’s and Harrah’s doors. I believe that the MGM properties (MGM, NYNY, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Mirage, Monte Carlo, Aria, Bellagio) have free WIFI in their lobbies as well. Also just Google “free wifi on the Vegas Strip” and you should come up with lots of places.
