Trip Report: Blonde4ever’s Perfect Halloween 2016 Trip – Part 2
Blonde4ever shares Part 2 of her Halloween Las Vegas Trip Report from October of 2016…
Tuesday in Las Vegas? We all know what that means right? It is “Old People’s Discount day” (My name for the Tuesday Senior Discount) at ROSS Dress for Less! Possibly this is not a day of great celebration for others, but it is for me. I believe I have converted Kodi as well. ROSS stores are not available where we live, and neither is anything with these kind of prices, so Tuesday is often a day of bargain hunting for us.
We noshed on in room coffee and suitcase food (Nuts and things we had brought from home) while we got dressed for the day. Then we proceeded down to the lobby to call a Lyft or Uber to transport us to ROSS. Not happening. Through no fault of my own, my Paypal account had been used fraudulently. Apparently years ago I had left my eBay account linked to my Paypal account. I had long since forgotten this, but some thief treated themselves to a nice watch at my expense because of that link. A week before my trip I went to double check on the amount of funds in my Paypal account and was horrified to find it empty. Paypal is how I secure transportation in Vegas because I prefer not to have my credit card info in any more places than it absolutely needs to be. I called Paypal immediately, and they could tell that the purchase was not made by me and refunded the money back into my account. I assumed (wrongly) that the matter was closed. But apparently since they were still dealing with the seller of the watch there was this annoying red flag on my account, and as long as that red flag was present, neither Uber or Lyft would allow me to use their services. AND, even more upsetting, I had several free rides with both companies to use that I was unable to access. The free rides expire in 3 months and would be long gone before I got back to town. I was pretty frustrated with all of this and spent several hours on my horrible little flip phone over the next several days trying to explain it all and trying to get that dang red flag off of my account but to no avail.
You can’t let one setback ruin your whole day in Vegas though, can you? We gritted our teeth and piled into a “normal” cab and agreed to share the inflated cost. Once at ROSS we had our usual lovely time digging through the bargains, making multiple trips to the dressing rooms, and scurrying off with our treasures when we were done. I purchased a glittery “Vegas” purse and a black and silver wrap that matches it, along with the usual tops.
Another tradition for us is a visit to Peppermill after our shopping expedition. Peppermill was packed when we arrived, so we settled for stools at the counter, but I don’t think I would do that again. They really aren’t very comfy, especially when you have ten shopping bags to wrangle with. I enjoyed the same salad that I had had before, their Walnut Creek Salad. I don’t really get excited about salad. I mainly convince myself to eat it because I know it is good for me, but this particular salad is a delight filled with chicken, fruit, cheese and nuts. I dream about it when I am at home. I have tried to duplicate it but never quite succeeded.
After eating we grabbed another cab back to Bally’s to drop off our purchases and have a short rest, and then it was off again to check into Kodi’s room down at the Linq and pick up her Elton John tickets for the next night. Her check in went quickly and we went up to the room to examine the renovations that made been made at the Linq.
She liked the rooms, me not so much. I am not a fan of modern looking things; give me antique and ornate, please. With that taken care of we proceeded to our next stop which was Venetian where I was picking up some tickets I had won from TravelZork to the Human Nature show that night. Kodi continued to Walgreen’s to purchase an American phone. We met up in the casino and played for an hour before the show. It was the first time I had played there since 2011, and I was unlucky there as usual. We truly enjoyed seeing Human Nature again, and my complete review is here. Some pics below:
After the show, we were ravenous as those Peppermill salads were a long way down. I had a Las Vegas Advisor coupon for Johnny Rockets in Venetian, so we stumbled around until we located it in the food court. It was expensive even with the coupon so without it the price would have been downright ridiculous. I don’t know if it was just because we were starving but that was one awesome burger, fries, and shake! When we finished up, we went on another long, confusing trudge trying to locate the cab stand. I don’t know what it is about Venetian, but I seem to get lost every time I visit.
I was way too tired and achy when I got back to Bally’s even to consider playing. I just curled up in bed with the heating pad I brought from home. I was very grateful to have it on this trip, and I think it is going to come with me on every trip from now on. To be continued next week.

I’m also kinda put off by the Linq room; it looks like a dorm room. I prefer cozy with a theme, something fun or rustic. I’ve been avoiding Peppermill because it always seems crowded, and this was on a Tuesday? This reinforces my intent to schedule my next trip for midweek.
I totally agree about the room. Yes this was a Tuesday…Peppermill is a popular place for good reason…. it is worth the wait.
Did the Linq room have a refrig and coffee pot?
Yes..they have a fridge but no coffee pot.
I love reading your reports Blonde. I’ve been 15 times since 2008 and love all things Las Vegas. As a fellow Canadian, I look forward to every trip. I just found out I’m pregnant, so I’ll be looking to Vegas Bright to live vicariously through all of the contributors to this site. It’ll be a long while until we see Vegas again, so please keep your reviews coming!!!
Congrats…but you can still go to Vegas pregnant. (Not as much fun…but it is possible! lol)
Ah…. closure!
Closure? There are seven more days coming! This was a nine day trip!
My OCD is throbbing right now… I need to go wash my hands, check that the fridge is plugged in, brush my teeth….
Ha ha!
