Play for Buffet

Play for a Buffet at RIO and PH

The RIO and Planet Hollywood have a promotion going on called “Play for a Buffet.” The idea is if you earn 50 Tier Credits at either property, you can cash in those Tier Credits for a free buffet. Thing is, all 50 Tier Credits must be earned at the same property as the buffet. Our tipster paperposter, caught this glimpse of the one at RIO:

He also shared with us what he received in the promo email:

Play for a Buffet details

So let’s break this down into dollars, shall we? This quote is from the Total Rewards site, and we’ll focus on slots and video poker:

Earn 1 Tier Credit for every $5 you play on a reel slot machine and for every $10 you play on a video poker machine. Some machines have lower earn rates and these games will be clearly marked with the different rate. – Total Rewards

I’ll just go ahead and break out the calculator…that’s $250 dollars of play on slots, $500 of play on Video poker, to get yourself a $30 to $40 meal ticket. I don’t personally see it as a great deal, nonetheless it gives you a few more spins a max bet. Not all the Total Rewards properties are running the Play for a Buffet promotion, it is exclusively for Planet Hollywood and the RIO.

  1. Horseshoe Hammond does this as a promotion once or two times per year… Usually it is “Play 30 minutes, eat for free”. Table games are a straight 30 minutes, but I think there is some formula for slots and VP that you need a certain number of plays (as opposed to having your card in and hitting “spin” once every five mintues).

Great to see this come to Rio… get a free buffet and pay the upgrade to the seafood section is actually a pretty good deal for someone who is already playing there.

  2. “that’s $250 dollars of play on slots…to get yourself a $30 to $40 meal ticket. I don’t personally see it as a great deal…” Actually a Fantastic Deal! One of the very best comp promotions I’ve ever seen. And as mentioned, can also qualify by playing just three hours of live poker. Thank you for sharing.

  3. I think it’s a great deal. I’m going to be playing anyways so it’s nice to get something for it.

  4. It’s a pretty decent deal in the sense that you have the whole day to accumulate 50 tier credits. Remember, if you’re spending in restaurants or shops or on tickets that are TR associated, you can earn tier credits for that as well, above and beyond just the slots or table games.

On my most recent trip, I was able to leverage this offer, but I didn’t know about it until I was actually there and ended up talking to someone at the Total Rewards desk. You need to go to either the desk or a kiosk in order to redeem the promo on the same day that you earn the tier credits. Be sure to account for that if you are trying to get the promo, as sometimes the desks are closed when you remember to do it.

The comped buffet is good for two days, but I believe it can only be used by the person that earned it, however I did not verify that so it is possible that you could use it for one guest as well.

  5. That’s a fantastic deal…the only downside is you have to eat at the PH buffet.

It’s not $30-$40 of value…if you really want to eat at those buffets, you usually can find a coupon on Groupon or Tix4Tonight

    1. Heh, I actually find the Spice Market Buffet quite a good value for the price. I felt it was really good before, slid a bit, but then has made a bit of a come back the last couple of years. While the quality is undoubtedly better at Bacchanal or The Buffet at Bellagio, the price for those two have also climbed far more steeply. For me, Spice Market has great variety, and good quality, for what is still a really reasonable price.
