Fontainebleau to become The Drew
Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the newest addition to the famed Las Vegas strip, The Drew Las Vegas.
The strip’s unfinished eyesore, Fontainebleau, is set to become The Drew Las Vegas. Sitting idle since 2009, the nearly 4,000-room hotel has been given a new lease on life thanks to a partnership between hospitality conglomerate Marriott International and recent purchasers Witkoff and New Valley LLC. Projections estimate an opening date in late 2020; a shortened lead-time made possible considering Fontainebleau was 70% complete before construction was halted in 2009.
Though the final designs have yet to be finalized, it is expected the 8.5-acre pool deck will be revised in a way to stand out from the current pool-scene that every hotel on the strip has jumped on. If The Drew Las Vegas does in fact happen, it will mark the first new casino opening on the Las Vegas strip since The Cosmopolitan in 2010.
We’ve been aggressively [move out of our way!] covering the revitalization of the north-strip recently; The Drew Las Vegas will be just a stone’s throw away from the now under construction Resorts World and Wynn Paradis Park, the soon to be developed Wynn West, and much, much more.
It’ll be interesting to see the continued development of the north strip as it looks to compete with the more robust center and southern portions of the Las Vegas strip.

this is very very exciting!!!
About time! So glad this is going to move forward. I can’t believe it’s only been since 2009. Seems like it has always been there.
That name will likely not last until opening date.
Yeah that name though??? It’ll be dated by the time that this place opens.
It needs to be legendary for a project this big. The Drew, meh. Not memorable at all.
The Drew?!? Is this going to be a LA Basketball League venue? Although with All Net Arena and Resort next door (suuuure) it would fit. See IMDB here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4462166/
8.5 acres of already poured concrete pools on the rooftop on top of the mall/casino, not sure that’s wise to mess with since it was probably already inspected. I’d be careful it was close enough to the old Rivera site to inherit that rooftop pool curse. The other AMAZING thing is it will be a JW Marriott hotel, and it will have a casino!!! I didn’t think Mormon’s and Gambling could be partners (Founders of Marriott were Mormon and a Book of Mormon is usually found in their nightstands). https://www.lds.org/topics/gambling?lang=eng
Kind of already looks like the modern JW Marriot hotels like the one here in Los Angeles…
GREAT NEWS! except for the name. that could change though.
