The Mirage

Cravings Buffet at The Mirage is for Beer and Wine Lovers

Vegas Bright buffet guru Iun Hockley returns with another white-knuckle review, this time a review of Cravings Buffet at The Mirage.

I crave Cravings Buffet. Let me explain: our first trip to Vegas was back in 2015 for our wedding anniversary and we honestly did not know how to properly “Vegas” Vegas. Mrs. Hockley and I were definitely in our “More is More” phase and were keen to try out every possible room in the city.

The result of this was a great deal of hotel hopping and not really taking the opportunity to enjoy the places we were staying in. In the course of about seven days, we stayed in five different hotels, and it was exhausting on the mind, body, and wallet. And yet, two things really stuck in our memory about our stay.

The first is that the service at Luxor is terrible. Really terrible. Like, angry monkeys on caffeine and steroids are running things-terrible.

The second was that Cravings Buffet at the Mirage is quite possibly the best buffet we have ever enjoyed at any place that we have stayed ever. In my other life, far away from the beautiful bright lights of Vegas, I have stayed in more five-star hotels and eaten more buffets than most sane people do in five years. No, I’m not rich, just a victim of circumstance.

So what makes Cravings great? The price sits firmly in the middle of the Strip buffets at about $20 per adult, so nothing jaw-dropping there. Where Cravings begins to set itself apart is the fact that beer and wine are included in the price. While this reviewer, bullpen of writers and website cautions against the perils of severe drunkenness, there is something so wonderfully VEGAS about sipping a rather delightful white wine at breakfast time with your orange juice and coffee.

Cravings continues to excel with the astonishing variety of different food stations: sushi; a huge baked goods section; a variety of pizzas; made-to-order omelets; pastas; desserts; fruit platters. The variety of meats available also bears mentioning – some days they have ribs, at least three different types of sausage, a good selection of beef both on its own and in dishes. Yet what is it that I crave, at Cravings?

Believe it or not, it’s breakfast burritos and the nachos that keep me awake at night. Before my first time in Vegas, I had only encountered burritos in poor-quality chain restaurants where they were mostly long grain rice and stringy beef. Cravings, however, stuffs its burritos with beef, chorizo, cheese and goodness-knows-what kind of sauce. There is quite literally a breakfast in one bite. The aforementioned nachos are practically invisible under a layer of thick, gooey cheese and peppers, there’s usually extra cheese and chorizo on hand if you feel like spicing things up. Every year that I have been back since I make an immediate beeline for the Mexican station.

Just picture this: a cut of juicy prime rib, smothered in gravy on your plate; a forkful of cheese-packed burrito in one hand and a fine glass of red wine in the other. Got it clear in your head? Make your next stop at Cravings.

  1. Agree! I have not been in a few years but it is always good when I go. Especially for the price.

  2. Every trip I use a MyVegas reward for a 2 for 1 buffet and believe Aria and Bellagio are much better for dinner. However, Cravings is awesome for Sunday brunch and unlimited mimosas!

  3. Thanks for the review! I did not know the buffet included beer and wine, I thought only M hotel buffet did that which is our first stop when arriving in Vegas. I will definitely try this buffet out on my next Vegas trip which is next week!

  4. We’ve had this buffet about 3-4 times. Overall, I would say it’s an ok buffet. We had this recently (Dec 7th) for an early lunch and for the FIRST time ever I actually had a glass of wine. Everything I had this past trip was actually pretty good. They also have a nice selection of non-alcoholic beverages (self-serve).
