’Twas the Night Before Vegas

BSiegs is headed to Vegas! But before he embarks, he presents ’Twas the Night Before Vegas

I’m headed to Vegas. Needless to say, my excitement level is high. We’ve all been there. The night before Vegas. And while I can’t speak for you, you are reading a Vegas blog. So I feel like I can kind of speak for you. No matter how many trips. No matter how recent the last one. The jitters, the adrenaline, and the unending desire to press the fast-forward button settle right in the center of your chest. And no amount of effort can wash them away. I decided to take that boundless energy and do something moderately productive. That’s right, I wrote a Vegas version of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas. Whip up a hot toddy, snuggle up by the fire, and let visions of Vegas dance in your head.

’Twas the Night Before Vegas

’Twas the night before Vegas, when all thro’ the house,
My mind was racing, like a scurrying mouse;
The players cards were stuffed in my wallet with care,
In hopes that many Bennie’s would soon join them there;

Look in his eyes. Ben looks ready to procreate.

The suitcase was nestled all snug by the door,
While my feet paced and danc’d on the floor;
A beer in the can, and a shot in my glass,
I hoped to settle for a brief nap, but alas!;

Deep in my mind there arose such a clatter,
Slot machines, cheers, and cracking dice were the matter.
Away to Las Vegas, I hoped to be in a flash,
To gamble, and drink, maybe a whiskey smash.

Packed and ready. My wife says more than five days in advance is “overkill”.

Deep within my loins, I felt giddy,
Just one blackjack and I’d be yelling “weeeee!”
When what to my wondering mind should appear,
But a miniature craps table, and eight tiny beers.

With a little old roller, so lively and proud,
I knew in a moment that he’d draw a crowd.
More rapid than eagles, his followers they came,
And location didn’t matter, he could call them by name:

“Now! Wynn, now! D, now! ElCo, and Flamingo,
“On! Venetian, on! Caesars, on! Excal and Cosmo;
“I’ll roll all the numbers! I’ll roll all the points!
“Now dice away! roll away! drink to the bottom of those pints!”

The music rocked as a soaring plane flies,
Our dreams were only met by the limit of the skies.
So up to Longbar the dollars they flew,
But of the result, only the VP machines knew.

If a more beautiful picture exists, I’ve yet to see it.

And then suddenly, I heard on the casino floor,
The praying and pleading, “Just play a little more”.
Of that Vegas atmosphere, I was immediately sure,
In the dollars came, the winnings were pure.

A spirit appeared, slowly rising from the muck,
And it was unmistakable, this was Lady Luck!
A bundle of riches she had flung on her back,
We couldn’t help but yell, “Gimme that clackity clack!”

Snake eyes – how they twinkled! the dimples were merry,
My cheeks were like roses, bright red like a cherry;
Our dealers were fun, drawn up like a dream,
And between each blackjack, a tiny card seam.

The end of a night, like the last song from a band,
Between the glass it flew, an hourglass of sand;
The night was still rich, the music at full blast,
Vodka red bulls pourin’, the endless night at last.

Our chips were chubby and plump, jolly old stacks,
Soon the Dollar Menu was calling, maybe Big Macs;
A wink of the eye and a twist of the head,
I soon realized, my Vegas dream was dead.

But tomorrow it was real, a vision no more,
I’d be in Vegas, with a true chance to score.
My excitement, my elation, they were off the charts,
I hoped that my liver was ready to play the part.

I sprung to my bed, and gave my nap a call,
And into sleep I sprung, my dreams standing tall.
As I closed my eyes I exclaimed with delight,
See you soon Vegas, I’ll party all night!

  1. Im there tomorrow. Super excited. Flying to Vegas can be fun experience. I swear, every time I fly to vegas the plane ride is always fun. Everyone is excited buying drinks, ready to go. The flight home is another story – lol. Everyone seems sleepy and tired.

    Good write up .

    1. Your assessment is dead on – a lively trip out and a muted flight back! Enjoy your trip and best of luck.

    1. They hit me every time! And since tonight is literally my “night before Vegas”, I’m feeling them full force right now. Thanks for the well wishes!

  2. I love this!!! Very creative and now even though I drive in normally this will pop into my head instead of Luck Be A Lady Tonight. Let’s hope you get that elusive Royal on VP this trip.

    1. Thanks Marty, love the $h!t write up every week! And I’m with you, would love to finally see that Royal…

  3. Very nice! Explains all of our feelings I am sure. Ben looks ready to procreate – too funny!

  4. My pre Vegas jitters got so bad they would stretch for the entire week leading up to the trip and when I got to Vegas I couldn’t even relax enough to sleep. I have since stopped going to Vegas, and only read trip reports about others going to my once favorite place in the world! :-(
