Sh*t You May Have Missed… Like N9NE Steakhouse Closing at the Palms

Hey all, BigAZMarty here with this week’s news about our favorite place, Las Vegas!

Jerry’s Nugget announced new renovations to the casino that is north of downtown.  Read LVRJ here.  Interesting bit in there is that grant money now seems to be available via block or redevelopment grants that have not been available since the Great Recession.  Good news as that should free up additional funds for revamping and improving old buildings as well.

Jerry Lewis’ memorial event for family and friends was held at South Point, read LVRJ via Kats here and LVSun here.  Again, condolences to the family and friends of Jerry.

Tilman Fertitta, the owner of the Golden Nugget, is purchasing the Houston Rockets for $2.2B, read ESPN here.  This means that you can’t bet on Houston Rockets games at Golden Nugget…conflict of interest and all that.  You know for $2.2B you could have put up that tower that was announced in the 1980’s at the Laughlin Golden Nugget.  Can’t count the number of times my wife and I tried to book rooms there over the weekend to find its “sold out” and then have to go to Harrah’s, Tropicana, or Aquarius, all of which have nice big towers and plenty of rooms.

$800M Extreme Sports complex with a hotel approved just off Las Vegas Boulevard and Sunset Road, across from Town Square, read LVRJ here.  To me this makes no sense, Stations was selling empty land further south that seems much better than this plot. A look at the upcoming challenges: FAA approval required on building heights, air traffic noise that will affect both the hotel and outdoor complex.  A Traffic Study will be required as that already is a busy intersection.  Oh, and where is the $800M coming from?

Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) is moving to a slightly cooler month…..May 18, 19 and 20th, 2018.  Major changes this year as you can now stay overnight in air conditioned tents or bring an RV.  Read LVRJ here.  Read LVSun via LVWeekly here.  I wonder if they are going to have an RV for “Cosmic Hookups”, and of course the required medical disinfection station RV.

LV Metro Police in the news after Michael Bennett, of the NFL Seattle Seahawks, had a not so nice experience with the boys-in-blue. I would assume this took place at Drai’s inside of The Cromwell.  Read LVSun here.

POTUS (the Donald) will be in town in October, as he’s canceled his Texas Fundraisers due to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, and will instead focus on the remaining fundraiser dates in other cities, read politico here.

Crazy kidnapping story around the Southwest as a man kidnaped his ex-girlfriend in California drove her as his captive to Phoenix area, then up north where they found her car abandoned in Mesquite, NV.  She was found at Railroad Pass Casino between Henderson and Boulder City, the kidnapper was captured in Las Vegas, read LVSun here.

FAA now has given full approval for LV Raiders Stadium read LVSun here.  If I remember correctly, there is a drainage canal under the property that will have to be re-routed before they can get into full construction mode.  Update: Clark County Commission has given 7-0 approval for the new building as well read LVRJ here.

Is there a new Las Vegas building boom just around the corner? This article about The Palms apartment complex up on Sahara (east of SLS and Paradise Road) seems to think so, four 45-story towers for rentals, retail, and restaurants to break ground next year and have been approved by the County Commission.  Read LVRJ here.

Steve Wynn has made two donations for hurricane and typhoon relief.  Both donations were for the same amount, $3.75M. The donations will be assisting in recovery and relief efforts in both Macau and Houston, Texas.  Read LVRJ here.

Neon Museum is getting a new sign for their collection; The Hard Rock Cafe sign from the shuttered cafe site on Paradise Road (the Showcase Mall strip location is still open).  Read LVRJ via Kats here.  Now, if they can just get transportation of the sign figured out.

Going to Lake Mead Recreational Park and worried about Wi-Fi or Cellular service? Fear not as Wi-Fi is now available at select sites with more to be added in the future, for a small fee of course.  Read LVSun here on the new service.  I can see it now, blooper reel videos of people texting/sexting and walking into the rocks.  Tinder for the RV park?

LVSun is reporting here that the revamped La Reve show at Wynn is back. They have some seating recommendations and an interesting take on what makes this different than say, the “O” show down at Bellagio.

LVSun has a good write-up here on new or recently remodeled Sports Books in Las Vegas, as well as a new slot machine, Anchorman!  I think The Cromwell killed off our favorite VP quiet area of the casino for their Sports Book, back near the casino cage.

Made plans to visit N9NE Steakhouse or Ghostbar at the Palms? Well, you might want to change those plans as they have been shuttered rather unexpectedly, read Vital Vegas here and LVRJ here.  No plans yet on what will take up that space now that Red Rock Resorts is manning the helm.

Resident photographer Greg C. reported on the ongoing Las Vegas Club demolition porn here; Vital Vegas also got great coverage of the deconstruction and ultra-high reach excavator nicknamed “Bronto”, that will eventually knock down the old Las Vegas Club hotel towers.  Read here.

Vital Vegas has some Caesars Palace construction porn where the old Serendipity restaurant was located and at the nearby Fountains, read and view here.

Coming to Vegas to watch football? EDGE Vegas via MarC has a great list of places with food and drink specials for opening weekend and NFL season viewing here.  SunCoast (Boyd Property) usually has an excellent hot dog cart if you are into that.  MarC also covers the Downtown Sports Books on TravelVegas here.

Eater Vegas reporting Sloan’s Ice Cream is coming to the Venetian Grand Canal Shoppes here.  Hmmm….this sort of sounds familiar.  Perhaps MGM can request Ferrell’s for Circus Circus.

More Monte Carlo restaurant changes as several eateries in and out-front of the casino are closing up in prep for the Park MGM-NoMad rebranding, read Eater Vegas here.

Wynn announced the new headliners that will fill the space in Encore Theater after ShowStoppers ended its run. Read VegasSeven.com here.

Caesars announced via PRNewswire here, that the financing for LV’s Caesars Palace has been completed which was another requirement to bring the CEOC division out of bankruptcy.

MGM has done some financial juggling with their DC National Harbor property, MGP has purchased the real estate and MGM will lease from MGP to the additional tune of $95M per year.  And with that announcement, MGM is performing a $1B stock buyback program.  Read casino.org here.  Not sure if that’s going to affect Las Vegas but it usually does somehow.

Whew! They for sure made up for a light news week last week; and now over to our Editor-in-Chief, LasVegasJunkie, for our stuff and more.
