Sh*t You May Have Missed… RIP Jerry Lewis

Hey all, BigAZMarty here with this weeks news about our favorite place, Las Vegas!

Jerry Lewis has gone to the big showroom in the sky as he passed away at the age of 91, a Las Vegas and Hollywood legend.  Late stage heart disease is what the coroner said was the cause.  Sad day for fans in France (he was a huge icon there) and the rest of the world. Read the Vegas response via LVSun here, and LVRJ here, here, here and here.  LVRJ and LVSun also have coverage of the Strip Marquees Tribute here and here.  He led a full life and will be missed, condolences to his family and friends.  His generosity for March of Dimes was legendary as well (to the tune of $2.6 Billion).

A local gambler hit a $747K jackpot at Ellis Island playing a “Buffallooooooo” slot machine (sorry that’s a Michael Movestro inside joke) read LVSun here.

MGM Resorts International Chairman Jim Murren recently issued a letter to employees decrying hatred and bigotry; MGM Resorts is putting its money where its mouth is by matching any employee donation to any Civil Rights group, read LVSun here.

LATimes covers the newest LV Resorts that are now accepting payments for hotel, restaurants, and shows via Phone Apps here. Just not gambling, that’s still a cash-only business.

Hmmm… The Nevada Gaming Commission will hold a special meeting on Thursday regarding weed and casinos.  They’ll be “hashing” out the details, read for yourselves here at LVSun.  Personally, I think it will boil down to the “private residence” wording in the law.

Spago restaurant is moving from Caesars Palace Forum Shops to Bellagio in early 2018, read LVWeekly here.  Spago will be moving into the old Todd English Olive’s location.

Heading to town for the fight this weekend? Well, the fighters are already there, see here from LVSun via photo gallery of their arrival at Toshiba Plaza (outside T-Mobile Arena).

In town early this Friday? Try out Drai’s After Hours at The Cromwell for a new back room “The Reggaeton Room” for some Latin beats, read LVWeekly here and he’s partnering with “The Embassy Nightclub” for the talent.  Could it be Victor Drai is looking forward for when the Oontz runs out?  Or is this something for the crowd that Alex Merulo will be targeting via the SLS take over?

Boy George strip residency coming to Vegas? He’s been working with Caesars Entertainment to get a showroom, possibly the Flamingo, read LVSun here.  I think he’d liven up Bally’s much better.  For now, he’s at The Orleans Arena this weekend Aug 25th for a pretty good 80’s/90’s lineup.

Downtown’s Fear the Walking Dead attraction is now open as VitalVegas has reported but LVRJ has some video to add here.  Is it really worth it to pay $30 for an experience that “wasn’t that scary”?

Got some free time this coming holiday season?  Check out the dates and price for Paul Shaeffer at Cleopatra’s Barge via LVRJ Kats here.

Niche (LVRJ) reporting Hooters $20M remodel is complete, read and see here.  Still not sure why Penn Gaming doesn’t just purchase Hooters and merge it into the Tropicana for a Florida feel, right?

A WTF article from Robin’s Niche that is sort of interesting and something I’d never heard of before, financial dominatrix?  Read here…for details.

Vital Vegas has covered the Golden Gate temporary closure before the big expansion reveal this Friday (pending all building approvals of course).  Read and view here.  He also reported on the construction porn portion of the build out as well here.

Is The Cromwell going back to its Barbary Coast friendly to players roots? Marc of EdgeVegas is reporting so, first up is 3:2 blackjack, lower table minimums, 100x craps, some new single zero roulette and EZ Baccarat read here. Read here for additional information on the Sportsbook, Eatwell restaurant, and the redo of the Interlude Bar in the middle of the casino.  I still think Caesars missed it when they put 1/2 of the rooms behind the support structures of the Drai’s roof pool complex.

EATER Vegas has more details on the upcoming Palazzo casino floor remodel, read here.  Only $15M?  If they could just finish up that old St. Regis tower where the wrap is.  It is believed that the upcoming Park MGM/NoMad is prompting these changes, too funny.

So that’s it for news this week, and now to our Editor-In-Chief LasVegasJunkie for our news and other stuff!

  1. Cromwell going back to Barbary Coast days??? Count me in. 100X dice sounds great to me especially since Casino Royal’s 100X dice is one table at certain times of the day (if it even still exists?)

    1. You are correct Jerry was emcee for the MDA Telethon which was in November and the March of Dimes Telethon was in December. He did contribute to March of Dimes as well, but not as emcee like he did for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. I sorta mixed up my ’60’s – 70’s Telethons there….so on behalf of two good causes if you wish to donate, there are donate links on the included homepages at the top (March of Dimes) or at the bottom (Muscular Dystrophy Association):

  2. I love the intimate old world atmosphere friendly dealers. With these new rules you’ll find me there next week.

  3. Last time I was in the Cromwell, the casino floor was empty but for the dealers and security. If better odds bring in the gamblers, then maybe we can see a reduction in the nickel-and-diming cynicism that has taken root at the heart of the strip.
