A Vegas Experience: Temporary Gaming at Las Vegas Club

LasVegasJunkie checks out the One Day Only gaming at Las Vegas Club.

I booked this trip in early June once the growing rumbling of temporary gambling at the sites of Las Vegas Club and Mermaids Casino began to spread like a wildfire. I immediately sent a DM to our editor, Michael, and let him know I would be making the trek to Las Vegas to cover the event for VegasBright. There was no way I was going to let a once in a lifetime opportunity, the opportunity to be one of the last handfuls of people to step foot and gamble at these two casinos, pass me by.

The original plan was to drive into town early Tuesday morning [27th] and cover the Las Vegas Club temporary gambling as soon as I hit the Fremont Canopy, spend the rest of the day doing research in Downtown and the northern part of the strip, and cover Mermaids Casino temporary gambling Wednesday before heading home. It was going to be a short twenty-four hour trip for me but at the last minute my wife and 2-year old decided to tag along so we drove out Monday night instead; it went from a short twenty-four hour trip to a two night stay which gave me more time for my research and BONUS my son got to experience his first Las Vegas trip at just twenty-six months. Side note: I don’t drink alcohol so I was not one of “those” parents under the Fremont Canopy.

I woke up Tuesday, June 27 at 6:00 am and was walking out of the Downtown Grand towards Fremont Street by 6:30 am. The plan was to walk over to the Plaza to catch my Lyft to the northern strip [Peppermills] to do my research first before coming back to Fremont Street to cover the Las Vegas Club gambling. I walked into the Las Vegas Club at approximately 6:40 am when I saw a friendly security guard standing next to two open double doors; I asked her if the Las Vegas Club was already open for gambling and she let me know yes and it would wrap up at 2:00 pm. So I busted out my new camera and took advantage of being the first patron there and took the following photographs:

It was a surreal experience to walk back into the Las Vegas Club casino floor through the front doors that have been shut to the public for nearly two years. Seeing the patterned carpet immediately brought back feelings of nostalgia for me as I spent a good portion of my early 20’s playing blackjack and staying there at the Las Vegas Club. Inside there was a setup of sixteen slots; eight “Gamblers Bonus – Multi-Game” slots and an additional eight “Multi-Game” machines. Since I was able to cover the Las Vegas Club temporary gambling so early in the day with no interruptions or crowds I decided to skip covering Mermaids Casino on Wednesday; covering the Las Vegas Club was the number one priority.

  1. Good stuff. Thanks for getting in there while you still can. My first trip to Vegas back in 2001, we spent a LOT of time playing on the cheap at the Vegas Club.

  2. I also stopped by. It was strictly a set up to keep the non restricted gaming license for both properties…no chairs..no drinks.i don’t think they expected many players. I was told the top payout was $70.Nice to go in one last time before the wreaking ball hits
