Sh*t You May Have Missed While Our Editor Released an Album

It’s Sh*t You May Have Missed for the week ending: June 2nd, 2017.

Hey all, BigAZMarty here with news for the week ending 6/2/2017.  Hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend, and now to the news.

1. Bellagio walkway (located at the Cosmo end) has been refurbished. Now you can add more steps to that walking routine as just the escalators remain. All people mover equipment has been wiped out. This is actually good because a lot of people would squeeze into that space between the people mover and the wall to watch the fountains. Read and see pics from Vital Vegas here. Think about the picture opportunities for that railing with fountains as the backdrop!!! Just don’t fall over the rail as it is the 2nd floor.

2. Also from Vital Vegas an answer to our question last week if Las Vegas Club casino portion, Mermaids, Glitter Gulch and such were also slated for tear down. It IS! Brand NEW ground up completely sparkling new casino resort will be starting from dirt scratch. Thanks, Scott! Read his Twitter response here. If you are having any issues figuring out the footprint of all this, I have a freehand (not great I know but it works) outline of the downtown area in red here.

3. Vital Vegas also revealed that one of the companies that have designed and put in the reviled drink comp systems at the VP bars is now looking to hit the floor, with a slot system. Read here. I’m not sure, but there are other systems out there that are more “customer” friendly, I like the ones where you can order a “Standard” drink off the slot machine menu, and it arrives within 5-10 minutes.

4. April Gaming numbers are in for Nevada, and they’re still on an upswing 1.19% increase Y-O-Y. Strip down 3.25% due to high baccarat hold. North Las Vegas up 18.02%, Boulder Strip up 19.02%, Downtown up 21.89% (Lucky Dragon needs a year in to normalize these Y-O-Y numbers). According to the article, they see a much better May so far, that should be out by the end of June. Read LVSun here.

5. Punk Rock Bowling has come and gone, see LVSun articles for recaps of Saturday here, Sunday here and Monday here. Galleries included.

6. Las Vegas Weekly via LVSun has a small feature on TopGolf’s Hideaway Pool, read here. It would take a heck of a headwind to loop a ball back over the building and into the pool.

7. Want to vote “The Best Of Vegas for 2017”? LVWeekly has their voting open now, read/vote here.

8. WSOP is on at the Rio, read LVSun for details here. They are trying out some new items to speed the game up for viewership reasons. LVRJ has a video here for Day One.

9. SLS’s new owner is getting a write up in LVRJ here. Interesting note that due to his ownership of Spanish Broadcasting they may use that as a vehicle for marketing to Hispanic communities. He’s also Cuban so you could also bring in the Miami links as well.

10. Olivia Newton-John who was recently headlining the Flamingo opposite dates from Donny and Marie is fighting a second cancer fight, this time it’s also spread to a bone in her back. Read LVRJ here. Best wishes and a quick recovery to you Olivia!!!

11. Help Clairebnb out, read Robin here. Follow the link in the article if you’d like to help out. Perhaps an interesting use of the Brass Plaque above the toilets….do you really have to put your name and photo on it. You know Katy could put Taylor’s name on one and Taylor could put Katy’s on another…get what I’m saying? And hilariously they are at 69% of the amount they need, is that marketing kismet or what? 69 and a Playmate of the Year…yup it’s a story…just not the way you are thinking

12. MarC of EDGE Vegas has via way of Travelvegas a breakout of the Cosmo parking fees here. Suggestion: get a slot club card and get to the 2nd tier, free self-park, and protection from “surge” pricing during busy weekends.

13. More pool and nightclub work upcoming at The Palms, according to Eater Vegas here. Suggestion from us is to tie into the Ghost Bar (glass floor) and make the Flamingo Road pool deck overhang area all transparent to the public street side as well. Hopefully, this will all be done in pool offseason and be completed by the following Spring Break season.

14. Eater Vegas also has just in time for summer break (and by no means should anyone under 21 try this out) the 16 best outdoor bars to try. Read and enjoy here. Heat and dehydrating drink…no issues here…carry on. I hope they all have AquaScience mister systems, so at least the heat isn’t an issue.

15. VegasSeven has some new concert dates into summer read here. Last time I saw Linkin Park live it was at Axis Theater for their only US date, interesting they are playing MGM Garden Arena now. Although Alien Ant Farm and Smash Mouth will be playing GO pool at Flamingo, so Caesars Entertainment has that.

16. Stiffs and Georges article here details the $500M Hard Rock will put into the former Atlantic City Trump Taj Mahal Resort to convert it properly into what they can use now. A gem in the article is lower down where a reader did a trademark search for Sahara and found that Stockbridge Capital owned it with SLS and Scott Roeben says the trademark was part of the sale to the new owner, so Sahara could be coming back legally soon.

17. In WTF news, a sex toy distributor warehouse was robbed twice over last weekend in Las Vegas for about $40K of products, what’s interesting is what the robbers took. Lelo sex toys and $30K in condoms. The Fox5 article is just absolutely hilarious read here not sure if it was done intentionally like that (wait it’s Fox5, so of course, it is). Like the following quotes from the article: “Davor Solvo with the Swedish company Lelo said he felt violated.” or “I doubt it’s all for personal use. If that’s the case, there are a lot of condoms and … plugs.” And finally in an EWWW moment “As for the products, they want those back, but only if they’re in the box and unused.”

18. Kathy Griffin and MGM have parted ways per Fox5 as well read here. She normally does some shows at Mirage but has not been scheduled recently.

19. Las Vegas Weekly has your weekend to midweek Oontz offerings, read Industry Weekly here. You know it’s summer break when Wednesday dates start to appear on the Oontz calendars.

20. Las Vegas Weekly also reviews Wahlburgers and Giordano’s at Grand Bazaar shops here.

21. Finally, a surprise health shutdown moment for the Old Homestead Steakhouse (Pantry and Food Prep area only) at Caesars Palace, read the KTNV restaurant report here. Pest and drains /walls have since been cleared out and cleaned up, and they have their A rating back according to EATER Vegas here. How do you miss a multi-generational roach infestation? Has the dreaded “Harrah’s Maintenance” routine (or lack thereof) infected Caesars Palace now?

That’s it for this week’s news, and now to our  “released into the wild” new album creating Editor – In – Chief Michael Movestro for our stuff and more!

Thanks, BigAZMarty! I am thrilled that the album is finally out in the open. For those interested, you can listen below or visit here for links to iTunes and Spotify.

22. Blonde4ever shares Part 8 of her Halloween 2016 Trip Report.

23. Fisherman shares his experience of The Art of Shaving.

24. From Sammasseur: Britney Spear’s longtime dancer is a vocalist who’s about to explode.

  1. #2 – Makes me a little sad but happy too. My first Vegas trip back in 2001, a lot of time was spent at the Vegas Club and the place was HOPPIN’ and I walked away with a lot of money after a great craps roll! Crazy how dead it became over the years. Hopefully the new plans will work and it will be a fun hangout again.
    Viva!
