Fisherman’s Experience: The Art of Shaving

Fisherman shares his experience of The Art of Shaving

I really enjoyed the Vegas Musts series that ran on the website a few months back. One thing that appeared regularly on the male writers’ lists was getting a shave. This was something I had never done and therefore put on my list of “musts” for the next time I’d be in town. I was lucky enough to accompany my wife on a trip where we stayed at the Venetian for a conference she was attending. There was an Art of Shaving store right there in the Canal Shoppes which made for a great daytime activity for myself while my wife attended her conference.

Scheduling was a piece of cake. I looked up the number on my phone, called, and had an appointment set within a minute. They do accept walk-ins as well. When I arrived at The Art of Shaving I was greeted promptly and taken into the barber room area. There is also an area for merchandise which displays all kinds of great products.

I met my barber for the experience named Ron. It was great talking to him and learning about some of his life experiences. He had been a barber in Las Vegas for 45 years. Prior to becoming a barber, he had been a mechanic in the Air Force. The shave was a great experience and I was lucky to come into contact with someone like Ron as that is what this type of adventure is all about. The shave itself was great and I will definitely add this to my list of Vegas Musts. I learned the true reason this was such a common Must. Meeting people like Ron, and having the type of experience that you just can’t get anyplace but in Las Vegas.

  1. I’ve always been tempted but have never done this. What do the prices run?

    1. Online it shows $60 to $65 for the Royal Shave. I’m thinking about doing this for my husband.

  2. I was looking into doing this at the El Cortez’s barbershop next visit. Thanks for your article, but need some further details. What was the cost, procedure, atmosphere, and the experience like?

  3. There was just a small barbershop off to the side from the merchandise area with 4-5 chairs. I walked in, said I had an appointment, introduced me to the barber and took a seat. Was very relaxing and lasted a little over 30 minutes.

    1. Gotcha… thanks! I’m planning a midlife bachelor party for a few 50-something aged guys, and throwing this option in the works. :-)
