Music Happens – We’ll Be Back Monday May 15th!

We’re taking a break, but we’ll be back next Monday, May 15th!

Hi, peeps! Last time we took a break here it was due to my surgery, but don’t worry everything is fine health-wise. As you may (or may not) know I’m a musician/composer/producer/instrumental artist — whatever the term is these days — it’s one of the things I do in my free time, in addition to VegasBright. Usually, I work on VegasBright stuff on weekends and sometimes during the week, but I needed as much time this past weekend as possible in addition to after work during the week to get everything done. Long story short, too many competing priorities, and I’m only one person. No worries, VegasBright resumes it’s usual posting schedule next Monday, May 15th

I have just finalized on the 12 tracks that will be on my new album. The task of getting the album mastered is next.

Mastering is the term most commonly used to refer to the process of taking an audio mix and preparing it for distribution. There are several considerations in this process: unifying the sound of a record, maintaining consistency across an album, and preparing for distribution. Mastering is truly an art form: a blend of technology, psychoacoustics, educated ears and musical intuition.

As the album heads into the mastering stage, I am taking the time to make sure the mixes are as best as I can get them. After that, they head off to the mastering engineer who will do his thing, and contact me if something needs to change in the mix. If you’re curious what my album is about, here you go…from my other website (you might get a message that the site is not safe because it doesn’t have HTTPS – that’s Google Chrome’s agenda to get everyone to use https – the site is safe, no viruses.)

I’ve always loved enigmatic/chill out/ethnic fusion/world music. All of these subgenres were balled into one “New Age” category in the 90’s (although little of it had to do with the “New Age” spiritual belief). This music was ushered into the mainstream by very popular as albums like Pure Moods, and Instrumental Moods and with the addition of PBS broadcasting concerts by Yanni, Kitaro and others, many people who were never exposed to this musical realm got a prime sampling. These artists have been on my playlist since the mid 90’s: Enigma, Deep Forest, Enya, Cusco, Massive Attack, Dead Can Dance, Yanni, Cafe Del Mar, Delerium, and Adiemus just to list a few (well 10, actually).

I was never able to pull off this kind of music as accurately as I would have wanted. However, in this day of technology, it has become much easier for me to accomplish. The making of this album is still a lot of work, but not as much of a burden (financially and physically) as it would have been back in the early 90’s when I was a budding composer. For example, I don’t have to fly all over the world with recording gear–we have the internet now.

My next album Fair Gemstone is going to be an ethereal journey of cultures, rhythms, and voices in concert with tribal, ethnic and Gregorian chants that will transcend a range of moods from chill out to invigoration. I’d really like this album to be about an hour in length, and so far I have way over an hour’s worth of new music and more still yet to be recorded. This doesn’t mean that I have too much music for the album; it just means I’ll have more of a selection to choose from when I make the final track list (who knows, maybe it’ll be a double album?).

The album will be called “Fair Gemstone” and will be released mid-2017.

Vegas Bright will be back Monday, May 15th, 2017.

Stay Vegas and Stay Bright…
