Hard Rock Happenings: Steakhouse, Some Stores, Showroom, Rock Vault, and More

Michael Movestro looks at the changes and new things happening at Hard Rock Hotel.

I have yet to set foot into the Hard Rock Hotel; I never went there, not sure why. However, there’s a lot going on there at the moment, so I figured now’s a good time as ever to bring you (and myself by researching this) up to speed.

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino has been undergoing some out-with-the-old and in-with-the-new, it all started last year when they began construction on their convention center. This year the convention center was used as part of the AVN Porn expo. Our tipster paperposter tells me “the space isn’t really big.” However, at a porn expo, does size matter? Probably, but it’s the girth that really matters. Wow, this sorta went blue. Let’s move on.

A retail store just opened at Hard Rock called “Chill” by Hudson. The same Hudson known for owning multiple Hudson News stands at airports and the like. Hudson dropped “News” from its branding in late 2014 as they sell more than news. “Chill” sells your basic Vegas visitor/tourist essentials like tee shirts, souvenirs, small electronics, liquor, water, snacks, condoms ( I guess) and various Hard Rock-branded items.

“Chill” has no “Netflix and” preceding it, so this is not a euphemism for sex.

It turns out Hudson is opening another store at Hard Rock called Hootenanny retail store, and not much is known about it. I’m wondering if this will simply be another essentials store of if there will be something, more, in like with Hard Rock and….hard rock.

For some reason, I thought this said “Hooter Nanny”

Raiding The Rock Vault makes a triumphant Vegas return, at the Joint at Hard Rock in March. It’s nice when things close somewhere else and say they’ll be back and then they do come back.

Body English is closed to make way for The Domina Club Theater where “Magic Mike: Live” will have its performances, starting this spring. If you’re wondering, Channing Tatum is directing and hasn’t ruled out jumping on stage once in a while.

Now for some meat that I actually care about: Morton’s Steakhouse.

Hard Rock Hotel

The Morton Brothers (Michael and David, sons of Arnie Morton who started the Morton’s Chicago Steakhouse, are opening a new steakhouse all-their-own at the Hard Rock Hotel this year. When Morton’s opens at Hard Rock, 35 Steaks and Martinis will close. In 1978, Michael and David’s dad Arnie opened the first location in Chicago. Now, Morton’s steakhouses are owned by Landry’s, however, Michael and David are doing their own thing. If you want a taste of the chained Morton Steaks, there is presently a Morton’s at Flamingo and Paradise. I have a feeling that Morton Brothers will be even better.

Also, Hard Rock Cafe, just outside of the Hard Rock Hotel is closed, they are keeping the guitar, but no one knows just yet what will fill the former space.

When Morton’s opens, I will finally make it to the Hard Rock Hotel.

  1. You’re kidding about never stepping foot in Hard Rock right? It’s a nice trek and def not walkable…well it is if u plan on getting fitbit steps in. Wonder if you will like Morton’s over your beloved Gallagher’s if I’m not mistaken. It’s a really chill vibe here and not as packed usually I guess because its so far from the strip. They have one of the better day parties…Rehab. Uber pickup is easy as well. Not in another location as some of the other hotels. The music paraphernalia is quite cool as well.

      1. Ditto to SLS, Hooters just their wangs :-) which r not great. I miss Anchor Bar. Palms I really like!!

  2. You have your Morton’s confused although it’s easy to do. Morton’s The Steakhouse, also known as Morton’s of Chicago is owned by Landry’s. The Morton family hasn’t owned it or had anything to do with it in years.

The new place at Hard Rock is “Morton Brothers”. Yes, there’s a connection to the founder of “Morton’s The Steakhouse” but they aren’t connected and can be considered competitors.
