Sh*t You May Have Missed While Submitting a ‘Nurse’ Application
It’s Sh*t You May Have Missed for the week ending 12/9/2016.
Hey, all! BigAZMarty here with this week’s Sin City news:
1. Lucky Dragon has had its official opening last Saturday, see LV Sun gallery here, see LVRJ here. Oh and check out EDGE Vegas’s room review here, not sure if I like the red glass that makes that pink look either.
2. Almost no news on this but it actually happened, Flamingo and Olivia Newton-John have ended her “Summer Nights” residency at the Donny and Marie Theater. Amazing with all the news about other shows closing this really didn’t get that much publicity, and I spotted it accidentally looking at something else completely so not sure how accurate it is. Fox News in Vegas reported it here. I checked Ticketmaster for her, and no Las Vegas shows listed so it must be so. The Flamingo site still has it listed as Entertainment, but it’s a little wonky now because the calendar shows nothing (maybe in the middle of an edit?).
3. Speaking of Caesars, CEOC BK announcement of 90% support have been announced and then bombshells dropped by the bankers, still a crazy case so who knows what will happen. Read PR on Caesars saying everyone is almost signed on here. Then read the Bankers bombshell that pretty much say now wait a minute did you forget someone, here. Perhaps they want some of that Parking Money????
4. Interesting read here on two competing arenas of thought for millennials by two different casino companies. In one corner Caesars Entertainment, in the other Penn Gaming. Any thoughts on it here? Personally, the wife and I game at Caesars properties and MGM properties on the strip and think slots are actually looser at MGM properties (reverse is true for VP players…although both seem to have stiffened odds, my wife and I hit more Royal’s and 4OAKS at Caesar’s properties for some reason). Maybe I will have to visit Tropicana or M Resort again soon to see how they are doing at Penn Gaming.
5. Say whaaat? Grand Bazaar Shops are doing better now that the restaurants are open and pulling foot traffic from the strip sidewalks and probably up from Bally’s/Paris as well. Read LVRJ here. Now if their competition down the street at the Linq can get that Virgil’s (rumor is Dec 13) and In-N-Out open as well.
6. MGM’s National Harbor is opening soon near Washington D.C (actually in Maryland) LVRJ has a preview here. This is building on MGM’s East Coast corridor strategy; they will have Borgata, National Harbor and another in the New England area soon. They have Beau Rivage on the Gulf Coast near Biloxi as well.
7. Sad news but more plausible use figuring what the businesses are nearby, Moulin Rouge land may be converted to industrial uses. Read LVRJ here. With the Spaghetti Bowl construction and freeway overpasses nearby, it’s probably never going to be a great fit as a resort (who wants to look at a freeway overpass out their room window? Looking down at I-15 might be O.K. from a half block away, but overpasses block views completely).
8. MGM is previewing The Park Theater, so these are actual shots from inside and outside of the new theater. Pretty close to the renders they showed. However, I thought it was going to be done in Brown/Bronze (Paint) and Gold (Window Frames and glass). See for yourself at LV Sun here. And Robin for LVRJ here. Pending any emergency the wife and I will be there opening weekend and then again near New Years so we’ll find out how good they are compared to Ceasars Palace’s Coliseum. I am praying they did not use those tiny seats that Mandalay Bay Stadium uses…I suffered through an early 2000 Shania Twain concert there once and had never been back. Still amazed that they ran fiber optics between T-Mobile Arena and The Park Theater for sync’d shows….excellent idea.
9. Las Vegas Weekly (c/o Las Vegas Sun) has a decent review of the retro Vegas vibe at Andiamo’s Steakhouse downtown at The D. Read here.
10. Vegas, Inc (c/o Las Vegas Sun) has announced that the Sunset Station (part of Red Rock Resorts) has completed it’s tower room renovations. I remember posting about it a while back, but now it’s official. So locals/visitors will have new rooms to look at for their holiday stay/vacation. I’ve been there at that location, surprisingly big casino and across the street is a fairly nice mall. Also, a good place to stay if you are going over to the Ethel M’s Holiday tour. Read here.
11. Boyd’s California Hotel and Casino have completed their remodel according to Las Vegas Sun, read here. Check out that gallery….no pictures of the “remodeled pool area.”
12. Neon Museum is expanding due to a grant to purchase a building and land for expansion. Read Las Vegas Sun here.
13. Fremont Street’s Experience has lit their tree, see LV Sun coverage and gallery here.
14. Industry Weekly’s new Oontz schedule is out for the upcoming weeks, read here. I love me some DJ names….. “gonna ride into the” DainjaZone…and “frankly that is” Justin Credible are the best wordplay DJ names I’ve seen in a while.
15. Hungry for some deep dish stuffed pizza? Grand Bazaar Shop has another anchor restaurant opening on Dec. 13th. Giordano’s!!!! Read LVRJ here.
16. Too funny… Kats is reporting Piff the Magic Dragon and Mr. Piffles are doing a lot of charity work this holiday season…oh yeah scroll down for some Claire Sinclair video with Kats as well as other things going on here.
17. Kats is reporting that Big Elvis will be on hiatus from Dec 10 – 26 for an expansion of the area he plays in. If I remember that is also shared with the Dueling Piano’s and other acts when you first walk into Harrah’s from the Carnival Court between Harrah’s and The Linq. Read here. Wonder what they are knocking down to get 100 more people in.
18. The bottom of the Chili’s near Hawaiian Gardens (formerly Pete Rose Bar and Grill) is becoming LV’s 2nd Heart Attack Grill. Our Facebook page has it here; Vital Vegas has more on it here. Hot Nurses needed….for those out of work showgirls from Jubilee (see cover image).
19. Another hot item from Vital Vegas….it’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere beer promotions at Margaritaville Casino at the Flamingo might have the best happy hour beer prices on the Strip. Read here.
20. Oops….NHL Las Vegas team denied trademark for “Golden Knights” read LVRJ here. Still, I think they should have gone for Silver Knights since Nevada is the Silver State.
21. Hmmm….MGM stating during NPR week that bars and lounges with free music are on the way back in Las Vegas, yup and read it in LVRJ here. I still can’t believe they pulled it out of so many casinos over the years for Night Clubs and big pay Theaters. Maybe they realize that by doing that they are taking away the amount of time sitting at tables or machines. Makes me wonder if they will ever be able to bring it back all the way where headliners used to do small sets at the lounges with the house band for free ( a teaser to the “big show”).
22. Robin has the LV related happenings this month for some Holiday goodness read here. The surprise is the original Gazillionaire is returning but not at LV show of Absinthe, but a new Los Angeles one. The current Gazillionaire will remain at the Las Vegas show. Wonder if that will cause a drop off in attendance at the LV one at all.
23. Robin also has a pretty good review of Kings of Chaos down at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. Read and view the gallery here. That set list seems to be right up my alley. I might have to catch it next time they are in Las Vegas.
24. Robin has a pretty extensive collection of Wrangler NFR photo galleries and goings on for Night 1 here, for Night 2 and 3 here, for Night 4 here, Night 5 here and Night 6 here. That’s a lot of photos to cover it all. Good job Robin and LVRJ for giving us some rodeo eye candy to view.
So that’s it for this week’s LV News goodness, and now to our fellow Palio Pronto lover and Editor-In-Chief Micheal Movestro for our news and goings on!
Thanks again, BigAzMarty! You know I love me some Palio Pronto! Speaking of DJ names, have you heard of Flosstradamus? The name makes my wife giggle.
Hey, folks! We only had three stories this week at Vegas Bright as my wife and I returned back from Vegas late on Sunday I didn’t have time to edit many articles. No fear, we’ve got more good stuff for next week…holiday stuff in Vegas, maybe a room review or two…so check us out. Plus on Sunday there will be a Vegas Bright Podcast and my wife will join me to talk about our December Vegas trip, lots of stuff to share! AND for the last two weeks of December, all the Vegas Bright writers and contributors share their favorites and not-so-favorites in our series: Best and Worst of 2016 – so, we got lots going on for the rest of the month. That said, here are the stories we brought you this week.
25. I brought you loads of photos and a video of Bellagio Conservatory’s 2016 Holiday Show. Check out the article or watch the video below.

Marty…can you review #22? I believe the current Gazillionaire will remain with the show.
I did miss something there….there will be a Gazillionaire at both locations as he is the ringleader of the show, the original Gazillionaire Voki Kalfayan will be in LA, the current Gazillionaire should stay in Las Vegas. I misunderstood that portion of it for some reason….i.e. reading too late at night. I apologize for the mistake there, and thanks for the catch!!!
