Sh*t You May Have Missed While Refreshing The Politico Live Map

It’s Sh*t You May Have Missed for the week ending 11/11/2016…

Hey all BigAZMarty here with this week’s non-election news goodness that is Las Vegas.

1. Paris is back open and fully powered up. It didn’t help when the subcontractor (hired for floor work in the boiler room) accidentally drilled through both the main electrical line and the line that feeds from the emergency backups. Crazy stuff, just can’t make this up, read LVRJ here.

2. More Caesar’s news (and right before earnings were to happen) they will need financing of–get this–$3.8 Billion to get the CEOC out of bankruptcy. Read LVRJ here.

3. More earnings reports, Golden Gaming, mentions the testing of products for millennials is “reaping success.” Read at LVRJ here,

4. Las Vegas Sands is also reporting earnings at LVRJ here. It’s interesting that they report a drop in table games at LV Venetian/Palazzo of 29.1% (could be baccarat but nothing mentioned). Most everything else is positive YOY (year over year). LV Convention space seems to be picking up for the Sands Expo behind Palazzo.

5. Full House Resorts posts earnings at LVRJ here. Only HQ is in LV, but hey, they have a Silver Slipper in Lakeshore, Mississippi. Ah memories, (Silver Slipper LV, 1985 – me getting obnoxious saying “freaking c’mon man…pay me faster!!!!” But, nope, tight as heck).

Editor’s Note: Couldn’t get this out of my head after ‘Full House Resorts’ above

6. Red Rock Resorts is paying dividends already, read LVRJ here. They also reported positive earnings and are quickly integrating The Palms into the players club read LVRJ here.

7. MGM also has their earnings report as well, read LVRJ here. Good news for them…everything is up…so that is not so good for parking fee eliminations. They were still able to increase LV Room occupancy and ADR rates from last year. Things to note, T-Mobile was the highest revenue generating arena in the world in September. A new convention will be on one of the MGM properties (or multiples) for a 5-year stretch (details vague and will be announced later). National Harbor will open next month as will the Park Theater. For those millennials, MGM Grand will have some floor space for you soon with games, music, and a “Vibe.” Nope, not that kind. You know, some sort of millennial groove thing for lack of a better term.

8. Caesars reported earnings at LVRJ here. It’s weird because I know that is the CACQ-only portion, read here. CZR posted a big loss, read here. Some good tidbits, room renovations are ongoing at Planet Hollywood and Paris. Read the edited transcript of the earnings call here. Oh yeah, buried in that call is Caesars Palace will be closing up the Palace Tower for a redo in the 1st quarter. No renderings yet but should start next year. What’s odd is no news on Flamingo’s remodel previously announced for the 75th anniversary, or, anything on a Bally’s or Rio remodel yet.

9. Cute and a little odd and not exactly in Las Vegas but in Clark County: Whisky Pete’s is announcing a room renovation for the short wings of rooms, they actually look decent. I stayed there in 1991 with the wife right as the (then) Primadonna Resort was opening and the tram over the I-15 was working as was a large Ferris wheel, simple but nice. Read LVRJ here. It’s odd that they have the big tower closed up and are only booking the newly redone rooms. Odder still that while digging up the earth for that tram, they found the grave of the original owner and had to move him and bury him again, this time in the caves where he made the moonshine. Fun read and history there. If you are from So Cal, you pass this place on the I-15 at the California/Nevada state line. Lots of owner turnover and not a lot of investment in the last 10-15 years. Let’s hope that Affinity Gaming can bring the Primm area casinos and hotels back up to snuff.

10. In other MGM news….Rock in Rio will not be happening in 2017, read Kats at LVRJ here. Probably why those speaker attenuation structures have moved over to The Park near T-Mobile arena.

11. Chrissy is looking for a showroom! Suzanne Somers is looking for venues, read Kats at LVRJ here. Perhaps one of the lesser rooms at one of the Caesars Entertainment resorts? I find it funny that they never mention that she had a bit part in one of the Dirty Harry movies…unfortunately, she dies, and it’s not just her…it’s a pool full of people. The movie is Magnum Force. I think the credit read Pool Party Girl.

12. Ever wonder what happens to showgirls when the longest running Las Vegas show ends? Robin at LVRJ has some of them moving from Jubilee to Crazy Girls, read here.

13. Nevada passes recreational Mary Jane law, read LV Sun here. Read into that, and you’ll have to wait until Jan. 1, 2018 for the government to get everything ready to go. No word on if MGM is going to re-instate “smoking” rooms at their properties to accommodate yet…I’m sure there would be a “smoking fee” associated with it if they do. I’d think the edibles would work just fine and not subject everyone around to second-hand smoke or a contact high. No word on if the casinos would allow it on the floor either. Just remember your hair keeps traces and if you are drug tested for your job none of this is a good idea.

14. Vital Vegas has it that Itsy Bitsy Ramen (but not Whiskey) has closed up the restaurant side for now. Whiskey bar remains open. Read here.

15. Vital Vegas also has that Evel Pie has opened up in the old Pigalle location. Read here. Rattlesnake sausage, interesting.

16. Vital Vegas Twitter has a shot of the under construction new Wynn shops. It looks like they are working on a basement or sub-basement access tunnels since it’s all below ground level. Don’t ask me why but for some reason I remembered the initial shots of the Grand Bazaar Shops at Bally’s when I first saw this…hope this turns out much better.

17. Vital Vegas Twitter and Edge Vegas have a link to this story about Dirty Las Vegas Casinos inspired by an article over here at casinoroom.com. Now I know why I am usually feeling funky when I get home after a long stay. On my last stay at Wynn, I’m pretty sure I got norovirus from the ice machine just after New Years in 2011, but, damn nicest room and bed to be sick in while in Las Vegas. I forced my wife to go still to Garth Brooks alone (o.k. she’s a fanatic, and it wasn’t that hard). She also hit a royal on VP while downstairs so my bad luck was her good luck. She got to drive me home ( a 4.5-hour trip that she made in 3.5 hours…she is a female Mario Andretti) for her troubles. So thanks, Steve! I haven’t stayed there since, even though I get a ton of $129 a night weekly offers for a suite.

18. EATER Vegas has a nice inside the 2nd-floor casino shot of the soon to be open Lucky Dragon, view/read here. Compare it to the rendering that is also in the article.

19. LV Sun via Las Vegas Weekly has something old and something new…an off strip nightclub revue, and it looks big and deserving of a mention if you are into Latin Nightclubs. Embassy Nightclub has been open since May of 2015 and is still looking to grow its fanbase. Read here. I am hoping this becomes a thing and pulls the Oontz out of the casinos….it’s probably a ton cheaper to drink and dance at as well as cheaper cover charges. And besides I miss seeing those walks of shame (male and female) at 7 AM coming back to the hotel rooms. Although the last visit to Planet Hollywood there were plenty of inebriated fans for Lionel Richie bouncing off the machines (reminded me of pinball bumpers) after the concert let out. People-watching at its best.

20. LV Weekly also has the new Industry calendar here for those who are tracking the when and where of the Oontz. Read here.

And that’s pretty much it this week; you know a much bigger event (the election) occurred and everyone is still talking about it…so not much out there this week.

Now to our editor-in-chief Michael Movestro for our news and more.

  1. Great info on dirty casinos! I always wash my hands! Can’t stand it when I see a guy leave the rest room without washing! Think I’m gonna bring some good wipes with me next time I visit! Also don’t like rest rooms with a door handle! I would rather use my shoulder to open the door, doors should swing out!

  2. Thank you for providing the link to that article about some of the former Jubilee showgirls moving over to Crazy Girls. I was happy to see that one of the four girls interviewed in that article was someone I happened to be acquainted with. I photographed Lauren when she was first getting into modeling years ago here in California. I found her to be a very warm, sweet, genuine gal. I’m very happy for her success as a dancer and showgirl in Las Vegas. Very well deserved!
