Sh*t You May Have Missed While Trying On Halloween Costumes

It’s Sh*t You May Have Missed for the week ending October 14th, 2016.

Hey all BigAZMarty here with this weeks news:

1. I read this and then it sort of disappeared as it moved all over the LV Sun site and was hard to pin down. Seems to have come to rest under the News/Gaming section where it had been hopping all over the front page. It is a good read on the new “Comp Drink” systems going into major corporations VP bars (i.e. Caesars, MGM, Cosmo…etc).  However, it has an interesting change of view…one of what is known in retail as Loss Prevention Shrinkage. Read the details here. They talk to Scott Roeben (VitalVegas) and Anthony Curtis (Las Vegas Advisor) in the article for opposing views…oh, and read the comments. I think LV may be nickel-and-diming itself out of what made it fun if you read those. Chicken and egg if you ask me….and why Downtown and locals casinos are way ahead of the Strip on getting higher returns and visits than the Strip. Pretty simple….gamblers come where they feel they are getting a good value for their gambling money. Take that away and they go to where they do get that.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 missed1

2. There is a Versailles Penthouse up for auction in Las Vegas. The owners spent close to $8M for it and everything in it, spread out over three floors. LV Sun has gallery and article here. Or you could just get a Venetian/Palazzo suite and save the money. Where? Concierge Auctions. When? Oct 18. Here is the property listing on their site.

3. Wynn has finished up moving the poker room over to Encore and it looks very nice (of course it does). You can see for yourself here. Pretty amazing if you ask me…a far cry from the old back of Binion’s area where the WSOP was held originally. I still remember thinking they were going to have some company picnic back there when I first walked into that area by accident.

4. If you go for the “Oontz”, here is a pretty good listing of all the dayclub/nightclub happenings in October. It just missed the Friday cutoff last week so it missed last week’s news.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      14682137_10153869945402344_8666935331993145371_o-1

5. Carhounds rejoice…Barrett-Jackson is in town for 3 days only Oct 13-15 at Mandalay Bay. Read details of the event times and admission costs here. It is a little odd that the listing seems to focus on the 15th for some reason, though.

6. Sheldon Adelson is now #14 Richest in U.S., according to Forbes…read here. Must be nice to be worth just under $32B…so why do you need public help to build a stadium for the Raiders again? Wynn also made the list at #246.                                                                                                                                                                                       missed2

7. Bruno Mars‘ new album is coming soon, and the first music video has been released.  It’s very “Vegas”, so of course you have to read it from LVRJ here. Video link included in article. Jet-ski the Bellagio lake while the fountains are going off? Check. Much more to see and some downtown scenery as well. Watch for yourself.  Remember he’s been rumored as a residency target for years. He fits either Cosmo or Planet Hollywood‘s Axis artist selections. And a day after I type this the residency has been announced – he is in the new Park Theater and will be playing Dec 30 and 31…read here for details.

8. W Las Vegas at SLS taking reservations for Dec 1st, according to LVRJ…read here.

9. Interesting…Elaine Wynn is seeking whistle-blower status from the courts. Read LVRJ here.

10. Also on sale starting Oct. 14th is the first full concert date in Las Vegas for Green Day (not counting the iHeartRadio event where Billy Joe melted down in 2012). This will be in the very same MGM Garden Arena that hosted the meltdown event. Let’s hope they don’t get bumped for some “oontz” and Rihanna. Read here. This is probably one of the more affordable concerts, as tickets start at $45. I am betting if it’s like their 21st Century Meltdown tour…it’ll be 3+ hours of just fun and excitement. They really do put on a good show.                                                                                                                                                                                                                14379852_1130997000320273_3937716005160508310_o

11. Something new and different (or maybe not), Golden Entertainment is going to open its first “Elevated Gaming Tavern” called SG Bar at 9580 W. Flamingo Road. Read here. If it is successful they might take it to other places where gaming is legal.

12. The NFL Stadium is clearing initial hurdles in the state legislature, read here. Of course, all the big Strip owners/representatives were there to support it. Think of the surge room rates!!!!  No more Sunday comps during Raiders Sunday home games. I would guess.

13. Well now, seems Caesars will now have to change all their signage and tickets for Rod Stewart, to read SIR Rod Stewart. Read the LVRJ piece here. Glad to see that happen and have seen the show, he has so much fun with the soccer balls (although a ball to the face isn’t that much fun if you aren’t paying attention..and he does bend it every so often).

14. Another set of show closings: Rock of Ages‘ last day is New Year’s Eve at Rio…read LVRJ here. Also at LVRJ via Kats, Gordie Brown‘s last show at Golden Nugget will be Nov 27…read here.

15. After that…one show is extending at the Flamingo. It is official – Donny and Marie will make it through 2017. Read LVRJ here. After fall, the Flamingo is supposed to be going through a $100 million renovation that will take several years.                                                                                                                                                     14352507_1069784986392655_5596592011539434292_o

16. Robin Leach reviews Solid Gold Soul at the Windows Theater at Bally’s. Read here.

17. Robin is also hearing of shows that will be in the Jubilee Theater that closed in Feb (If I remember, the huge stage elevator had some mechanical issues) read here. My guess is it will not be nearly as extravagant as Jubilee nor will the production values be as good…maybe something from the group that does the X shows?  I have to write that what it you were a CEO for Bally’s….so much good there that they just let die.

18. Edward Doumani passed away. He was an early Wynn partner and invested in Golden Nugget. He opened La Concha and El Morocco on the Strip as well in the 60’s. Read all he did here.

19. Vital Vegas has some interesting reasons to not play the new Venetian Triple Zero Sands Roulette, read here.                                                                                                     missed3

20. Vital Vegas also has the second full White Castle, coming to Fremont Street on the corner of the Harley Davidson store right under the Trader Bill‘s sign. Read here.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          img_0731

21. This would freak me out (cracking glass…first and foremost) but is Stratosphere planning a glass skywalk (like the Grand Canyon Skywalk)? Vital Vegas with the details here.

22. EATER Vegas has info on the $2M makeover of the Orleans Courtyard Cafe here. Not sure how you spend $2M on about 6,500 Sq Feet , but hey I used to get housed there for work every six weeks when it was new and the Cafe had good food back then…basic but good.  Oh, and the Prime Rib Loft is back open again there.

23. Finally a good list of 2016 Halloween things to do and see in Sin City. Read Vegas.com here.

24. Hooters Hotel Casino will not be changing the name. The new owners and casino-operating company have announced this…read LV Sun here.

  1. “After fall, the Flamingo is supposed to be going through a $100 million renovation that will take several years. ” 100 million is not near enough what needs to be spent on updating the Flamingo.
