Blonde4ever does Shows, Food, and Sights in her “Vegas Musts”

Blonde4ever shares her Vegas Musts

I have been enjoying the flood of Vegas Musts articles that have been pouring into Vegas Bright in recent weeks.

I am attempting to compose my own list but having some difficulty. My “Vegas Musts” list is more of a “Vegas Would Like to” list, if my feet and finances hold up.

My first “must” is to have at least one “fancy” meal per trip. My definition of fancy may be different from others, but it usually involves an upscale restaurant that has a fixed price menu; that way you can have a nice steak dinner without taking out a second mortgage on your house.

Secondly, I “must” see multiple shows. Some trips I see as many as 5 or 6 of them. I love almost all shows. Some people will sit through a production without cracking a smile or clapping their hands. I don’t have very kind thoughts about these people. If the performer is up there busting their butt to entertain me, I am darn well going to offer them my encouragement and appreciation.

My third “must” would be to watch the Bellagio fountain shows at night from the sidewalk right in front of the fountains. You cannot watch it from any other location; not from your hotel room, not from a bus going by, not from a crossover bridge. No other vantage point will afford you the complete experience. You have to be right in the center, leaning against the railing, with the spray from the fountains in your face, in order to get the full effect. Also, it has to be playing one of the truly Vegasy songs. I can remember a night many years ago when I was walking the Strip and I just happened to be right in front of Bellagio when the fountains went off. All of a sudden Elvis’s Viva Las Vegas filled the air; the fountains went BOOM, and I was mesmerized! This experience never gets old for me.

Vegas Musts

My fourth “Vegas must” is startlingly similar to my third “Vegas must.” (Do you sense a pattern emerging?) I must stand in the middle of Fremont Street and watch one of my favorite Viva Vision canopy light shows. The lights go off on all the casino signs, the music starts, beautiful images float over your head, and thousands of people all start singing “Living on a Prayer” with Bon Jovi. (Or another equally catchy song) That doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world.

Vegas Musts

My favorite aspect of Vegas is the spectacle of it all. At any given moment you may find me staring up at some glittery thing, transfixed, with drool coming from the corners of my mouth. It might be the chandelier at Cosmo or the porte-cochere at the Plaza or just a sparkly slot machine. I have a long-standing love affair with coloured lights, and things that twinkle.

Vegas Musts

In fact, I think if Vegas had no lights or sparkle, I would have no interest in visiting. My strange glitter addiction brings me back time after time.

  1. Blonde our must do list are almost the same….our words also ,,one “fancy’ meal to us is red lobster or binions steakhouse,,,,a show or two,,,we have been to LOVE 4 times,,,,,and our new must is Bellagio conservatory,,,our first meal is always Panda express if we are staying at Sam’s Town,,,and the spring preserve museum and cactus and butterfly habitat is neat too

  2. Check out picture on Everything Las Vegas. That’s me in the Fedora at the back. Seems as if one of my Vegas musts is a new hat. LOL Anyway the fountains are one for sure. To be honest we have not done the Freemont Experience is a while. May consider it after the meet this year. The good meal seems to be a steak at one of our favorite places ________ fill in the blank. SW STK Cut and so on.

  3. In response to your comment where you said…”I love almost all shows. Some people will sit through a production without cracking a smile or clapping their hands. I don’t have very kind thoughts about these people. If the performer is up there busting their butt to entertain me, I am darn well going to offer them my encouragement and appreciation.”

I personally had a very bad experience with someone like you describe yourself. I attended Absinthe last month (for the 6th time since 2011), and sat next to a lovely couple (mid 50s?), until the show started. The woman was drunk as sh*t, and kept screaming, clapping, and whistling (the loud kind where you use two fingers in your mouth) almost the entire time (even during times where they asked the audience to remain silent) , and was a huge disturbance to the performers and myself. There is no reason to lose control of your bodily functions during a show. Yes, applaud after the act, but don’t lose control during the performances, you can cause them to lose focus and get injured. I don’t have kind thoughts about these people. People need to be respectful of the performers and other guests.

  4. Great stuff as always.

One thing I always do is spend 5-10 minutes just hanging out, listening to Carl “Safe Sax” Ferris, playing on Fremont.

Another thing I do, whether I want to or not, is to keep count/score of the number of hookers that approach me. Last trip it was 2 downtown, 1 on the strip.

  5. I agree with you! I am a sucker for the neon and all the lights twinkling!! Love driving into Vegas at night, no prettier sight!!
