Paul: My Vegas Musts Are All About The Brews

Guest author Paul shares his love for breweries, piano bars, and really great food…

I’ve been reading with interest contributors’ “Vegas Musts” and thought I’d send mine in. I’ve been coming to Vegas for about 12 years, a total of 14 visits so far, split between staying on the Strip and Downtown. I always come for two weeks, and never manage to fit everything in that I’d planned to do! Which is always a reason to come back, of course.

I’m not a “nightclub” sort of person, but I love a good bar, and the top of my list is The Griffin on Fremont East. It’s a great bar with a friendly crowd and a great jukebox. Other Downtown favourites are Don’t Tell Mama Piano Bar and Chicago Brewing Company in the Four Queens.

On the Strip, I love La Salsa Cantina. You can’t beat Casino Royale for a few cheap Michelobs, although it does get a bit crowded!
Favourite places to eat are The Peppermill (great cocktails also!), Triple 7 Brewery Pub in Main Street Station and for a treat, Gordon Ramsey Steak (Paris), where I am blown away by the food and service.

For a good gamble, I enjoy El Cortez Downtown. I don’t take my gambling too seriously and don’t get too carried away (win or lose), so the lower limits suit me fine. Four Queens is great also…I find the dealers friendly, and the drinks come fast! But I like to visit a few casinos up and down the Strip, also.

I’m not a great shopper, but the stuff in Hard Rock Cafe is always a favourite, and the restaurant upstairs is worth a mention for the decent food, good drinks, and service.

I love Las Vegas! As a single traveler, I never fail to enjoy myself and can invariably manage a conversation with a total stranger, wherever I go. Personally, I have always found Vegas to be a friendly, endlessly entertaining and interesting place to visit. Now I would never go anywhere else.
