Matty Ice: My Vegas Musts From South Strip To Fremont

Matty Ice slides down the Vegas Musts list of his must-do favs…

Living a short 1-hour flight (or 4.5 hour drive) away from Las Vegas affords me the opportunity to go more often than most people. Throughout the past four years, I’ve found a few musts that I absolutely do each time I’m in town. If you haven’t been to these places, I (obviously) highly recommend them!

Sin City Brewing – I grab a pint of a great local brew right on the Strip the minute I get to Vegas. I love their beer and nothing says “vacation mode has started” than walking around beer in hand.

Vegas Musts

Foundation Room – I must go and have a drink at the Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay. You feel ready to take on the Strip after getting a martini or two up there at sunset. The views just can’t be beat.

Play some blackjack at El Cortez – The best odds in the city and unmistakably still has that lovely old Vegas feel. This usually couples with spending a full night of gambling and drinking my way through Fremont Street. Can’t beat the prices Downtown on just about everything.

Make a sports bet – I love making at least three team parlays. And if they hit, a little money can win some big bucks!

Play some poker – definitely the only game I have a definitive profit from. Even if I don’t have the time to sit down at a nice cash game, I always try to find a decent tournament in the morning for $60.

Vegas Musts

Lemongrass at Aria

Get a nice dinner somewhere – When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in Vegas, dress presentably and get a great meal somewhere. Recent favorites have been the Eiffel Tower Restaurant, Lemongrass, & Carbone.

Walk the Strip – People-watching at its finest. No matter how many times I visit, the Strip is always awe-inspiring to check out at sunset…right as the neon comes to life.

Finally, before I leave I must try something new. Restaurant, bar, show, whatever. Vegas has too much to offer to not try at least one or two new things each trip! Based on what I’ve been reading from others, I’m going to add a trip to the Mandarin Bar as well as Frankie’s Tiki Room next time I’m in town.
