“Eric NYC” Shares His Slick and Healthy “Vegas Musts”

“Eric NYC” Goes Vegan (And Clean-Shaven) When Hitting Sin City

My first Vegas must is well, going to Vegas. When I’m not there, I think about it almost constantly, so a yearly trip or more has become a must for my sanity.

Once I’m in town, I like to start my adventures feeling fresh. So on my first morning, I saunter over to the El Cortez and head to the second floor for a good old fashioned barber shop shave. Ideally, someone is already in the chair when I arrive, so I can relax and read the waiting room paper before it’s my turn.

Once in the chair, I love lying back with the hot towel on my face, thinking about the amazing tales these barber shop walls have been privy to throughout the years. The barber isn’t chatty, but that’s ok with me. I let the walls do the talking.

Vegas Musts

Another must for me is right downstairs at the ElCo‘s 25-cent roulette table. Buy in for twenty bucks, hit a number or two, and wind up with stacks and stacks of chips that will make you feel like a clean-shaven big shot. Ask the dealer for their favorite number and throw a couple of chips down on it for them and a few for you. If it comes out, you’re a rock star!

Vegas Musts

I’m generally a downtown kind of guy, but a meal at Wynn or Encore is a total must. Being a longtime vegan, the Wynn is perfect for me. You see, every single restaurant on the property has a vegan menu! Seriously, every single one! If it’s not displayed, just ask.

From delicious vegan chicken and waffles to veggie burgers to spicy drunken noodles to the best corn chowder ever to scrumptious brownie ice cream sundaes, the Wynn/Encore restaurants are a vegan paradise. Whether you eat meat or not, check out their vegan options. There are some real gems.

Finally, my number one Vegas must is five-dollar craps. In my area, it’s getting harder and harder to find a low-limit game, so the abundance of five-dollar games Downtown really gets me amped to roll the bones. Not only do lower limits let me play longer, but I’m convinced that the lower the table limit, the more fascinating and fun the players are.

Vegas Musts

Some of my favorite spots are Golden Gate and Downtown Grand. And when I’m feeling ultra low roller, I’ll head over to the Fremont for their three-dollar game. That gives me a lot of extra dough for ridiculously bad…yet oh so fun…long shot bets! Give me the hi-lo and a yo!

Dang, I must get back to Vegas soon!

  1. Love the 25c roulette at El Cortez! Stumbled on it by accident while staying at 4Q. Being from England, it was our first stay Downtown so we thought we (my wife and I) would kill an hour or two in the morning in El Cortez then maybe catch the Deuce to the Strip. We rolled out 10 hours later after losing track of time, absolutely wasted on free beer and with more money than we went in with!!
