Ten Reasons to Love the Four Queens

Blonde4ever shares 10 reasons why she loves Four Queens in Downtown Las Vegas…

The Four Queens is located in the heart of the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. It opened in 1966 and has been packing them in ever since. What attracts people to this hotel? I will give you my reasons for my many return visits.

1. There is NO RESORT FEE – Yay! The universally hated “extra charge for essentially nothing” is not present at the Four Queens. Their room rates are usually some of the most affordable Downtown.

2. The location – For anyone who enjoys being in the middle of the action it doesn’t get better than this. I usually request a North Tower room because the elevator is literally ten steps from Fremont Street; on nights when you are very tired/inebriated and are just trying to make it back to your room you will be grateful for this. Also, even though I have seen the Fremont Street Experience Canopy show a bazillion times, I still scamper out into the street like a little kid when I hear it starting. It is a short “scamper” from The Four Queens casino.

3. The bars – I am extremely partial to the bar that sits on the side of the 4 Queens that is open to the street. You feel like you are half on the street and half in the casino. You can play video poker, watch the crazy nuts on Fremont Street, hear the music, and get fresh air all at the same time! I am also a HUGE fan of the Patio outdoor bar. I sit out there in the daytime with a coffee and use the free Fremont Street WIFI. (The WIFI within the hotel can be had for a price) In the evening if you are lucky enough to nab a seat by the railing it is the perfect spot to watch the shows on the Third Street Stage.

4. The restaurants – I have only been to Hugo’s once, but it was a memorable experience and one I would love to repeat. Where else do they give you a free rose? I have eaten at Magnolia’s Veranda too many times to count. Magnolia’s is one of the best places to go downtown for good food at reasonable prices. My new favorite is their Crab and Bacon omelette. It sounds strange, but it is delicious! I also adore sitting in the booths that overlook the casino and watching the action from above. I am guilty of never having eaten in the Chicago Brewing Company but from all accounts, it is a great bar with awesome pizza among other things.

5. The food court – I think I stayed at the Four Queens several times before I ever noticed that the food court existed. It is up a set of stairs across from the Player’s Club. There is a Subway Sandwich shop when you need something quick and an ice cream counter for those ice cream emergencies.

6. The ambiance of the casino – The word iconic gets tossed around way too frequently but whenever I step inside the Four Queens that is one of the words that comes to mind. It is decorated in a charming New Orleans style with ornate chandeliers.

7. The glittering exterior – I think the neon on the Four Queens must be some of the most recognizable in the world. Is there any question where you are when you see this sign? It has had the same look for many years, and I hope it stays that way. I could stare at the neon of Fremont Street forever, but then I am a little strange that way.

8. The rooms – While they are not posh I have always found them to be clean and comfortable. The Four Queens is renovating their rooms as we speak so they should all have a fresher look soon. My only criticism is that I wish they would put their safes in a higher location for us “more mature” guests who don’t like to hang upside down off of the edge of the bed in order to get to our belongings.

9. The pool – While I realize the pool is not in the Four Queens itself, it is a quick jaunt across the street and up the elevator to make use of the lovely rooftop pool at their sister property, Binion’s. I truly adore this spot. The view is amazing and the times I have visited it has never been crowded; a definite plus in my books.

10. The entertainment – I have seen both Mike Hammer Comedy Magic and Steve Connolly: Spirit of the King multiple times and always enjoyed them. They are the kind of shows you can see over and over and have fun every single time.

There are more than ten reasons to love the Four Queens. It is the definition of classic Vegas to me. Be sure to check it out on your next trip to the Fremont Street.

  1. Another great article Bonnie, I am a regular now at the Four Queens for one reason “THE CHICAGO BREWING COMPANY” outpost upstairs, my favorite place in Vegas to drink, gamble and watch sports, plus it’s a cigar lounge as well, total man cave place. Shout out to Tiffany, Kimmie, Mike, Bob, Jeff, and Louis the great staff at the Chicago

  2. Thanks for another update to the Downtown casinos/hotels. Didn’t know that Four Queens does NOT have a resort fee. I too thought the casino has a fun, New Orleans/early San Francisco vibe to it. May have to check it out soon, but one person in our group is very anti-smoking and I know the casino is smokey. How are the nonsmoking rooms?

  3. Bonnie, can a guy get a quiet room there? Like the rates, but don’t want Fremont’s noise at nite, have mostly stayed at Plaza just for the quiet!

    1. I believe you still can, it has just gotten a little more challenging with the Downtown Events Center out back.
Make sure to ask for a quiet location when you check in.

  4. This is my favourite place in Vegas. Been about 35 times in the last 11 years and I always gamble at the Four Queens. The two big things for me are the VP pay schedules and the amazing cocktail service. The girls are very quick and friendly. There is good VP elsewhere downtown but the cocktails are far too slow (I’m talking about you, California).

  5. Will be my third stay at the 4 Queens in six weeks time. Agree with all of the ten reasons but the no. 1 is the same as yours…..NO RESORT FEE! Other hotel’s rates look great until you add in another $20 or do for things you will probably not use. In some cases the resort fee is more than the room rate……can’t be right! Can’t deny I’m from Yorkshire..short arms, deep pockets. North tower can be noisy as it overlooks the FSE but hey, who goes to Vegas to go to bed early?????

  6. always stay @ Golden Nugget with my wife but first thing we do after arrival is check in to Chicago Brewing for a cold one. What a great bar!! We also hit Binions for a tremendous steak dinner as well! We love those places. Maybe next time we stay at 4 Queens.

  7. I agree, there is much to love about the 4Q. convenient location 4 sure, no resort fee is awesome, convenient lil sportsbook, they play good music in the casino. the Chicago Brewing Company is good too. Magnolias is a good value when you have a coupon. those booths overlooking the casino, are MINE!, but you are welcome to use them when I am not in town ;-). I think I appreciate the neon as much as you do, and oddly, so does my 26 year old son. is it possible to inherit the Vegas gene? the last time I was there, I had to call maintenance twice for the safe, the battery pack kept disconnecting. I have stayed there many times paying the casino rate. and now, for my one complaint, I never get mailers / offers from them! I have checked with the players club, my address and email ARE current.

    1. That is funny…I have a 28 year old son that also inherited that Vegas gene.
I am not sure but I think they have recently undergone some changes in their Player’s Club system.

  8. You forgot my number reason…….fantastic water pressure. One of the best showers in Vegas if you like enough pressure to wash an elephant, like me & Jerry Seinfeld and his cast, LOL

  9. I love 4 queens, and will be back in December. South tower is quiet. I just had friends stay there this last week, in North Tower, and above 12th floor is smoking rooms. One had smoking, the other did not….both were renovated rooms. Not fancy, but clean, and nice.

  10. I also agree with your evaluation. The Four Queens is the ONLY place my wife and I stay, and we have stayed there many, many times over the years. We enjoy the bartenders at both indoor bars as well as the waitresses. As often as we go, we get to know them all by name, and they know us. A great place……

  11. I am in love with the Four Queens. I’ll be there two nights in December, booked through Hotwire for less than the cost I would have to pay in the form of a resort fee to use one of my CET comps. You can always tell which one it is on Hotwire because there is no resort fee.

The Four Queens does not love me, I only got an offer one time ever. But I am happy to pay to stay there. This is very unlike me. They must pump some feel good stuff into the casino to make even grumpy people happy.

  12. The 4 Queens is my favorite downtown property… it is so awesome, and manageable. One of the happiest weeks of my life was spent there. The Hawaiian Steak and Eggs at Magnolia’s is the bomb!

  13. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

I love how the north tower elevator is just steps from Fremont Street. BUT…the roar of the street, can be a real drawback from rooms facing the street. (I asked to be moved on my last visit.)

TIP: The ODD numbered rooms face away from the street and are just fine for those of us who like quiet rooms.

Also, ice machines in the north tower are on every other floor. Not so bad, really. Take the elevator UP and the stairs DOWN. Easy.

  14. and back to those safes, as I said, I had to call maintenance 2 times to fix the safe. TWICE I was exposed to “plumbers crack” — another good reason to move them up from the floor.

  15. Thanks for the review. I’ve gambled there, but never stayed there. It’s #1 on my list for the next time I stay Downtown. Chicago Brewing Company is a great little place. Good choice of beers and a surprisingly diverse food menu. Lots of TVs and several seats that overlook the casino. Thanks for the wifi tip. A somewhat sad confession…when I’m headed back to my hotel room at 3 AM, drunk and hungry, a hot pastrami sandwich from Subway is damn good!

      1. I’m not sure about the Subway at Four Queens. I was staying at El Cortez, and that one was 24 hours.

  16. I’ve traditionally been a fan of Four Queens, but a recent experience has completely soured us on the entire place. My husband stayed on a floor being renovated, and he got bed bugs and ended up bringing some home which turned our lives into a complete nightmare. Despite several calls and emails to the hotel, they completely disregarded and ignored us, not so much as even an apology. This was at the end of July. I’m so disgusted with them at this point that I can’t see myself ever going back. It’s a disappointment and a shame.

  17. And don’t forget, if you tell them at check in that you don’t want housekeeping, you get a $10 per day credit. It can be used at Magnolias, Chicago Brewing and the casino bars
