Comparing “Vegas Musts” – 2005 vs 2015
Vegas Bright reader & podcast listener Corgimom compares her Vegas Musts between 2005 and 2015.
I don’t get to Vegas as often as I used to. Back when a Vegas trip was a quarterly thing for me, I had many “Vegas Musts.” Things have changed through the years – here is a look at what a difference ten years makes to our Vegas experience. Let’s compare…
2005:
Eat breakfast in the Sidewalk Café at Bally’s (now closed).
2015:
Order breakfast from room service on our first full day – and sleep in, because we never go to bed until 1 am Vegas time that first night.
2005:
Walk from Bally’s to Riviera or Stardust, stopping in every casino along the way to play the slots (with the exception of Casino Royale and O’Shea’s – too smelly).
2015:
Rent a car and spend most of our time at local casinos like Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock, Silverton and M Resort, playing VP and table games.
2005:
Enjoy a mocha latte while watching the Sunset Stampede at Sam’s Town.
2015:
Have a few beers during a VP session (finding those Full Pay Deuces Wild machines is getting harder and harder).
2005:
Try to get a comped headliner or hot show tickets from our host, preferably Seinfeld, Leno, Love, Danny Gans, Bill Engvall, Mystere, etc.
2015:
Enjoy the free lounge bands in the casino, preferably while gambling.
2005:
Spend one night “slumming” Downtown to people-watch and eat cheaply.
2015:
Spend more time Downtown because that is where the better gambling odds can be found.
2005:
Have a Ruby’s Diner burger for lunch at the airport on the way home.
2015:
Book an early evening flight and arrive at the airport at the last possible second so we have as much time in Vegas as possible.
2005:
Stand on the pedestrian bridge between Bally’s and Bellagio at night to watch the traffic and the fountains.
2015:
Stand on the pedestrian bridge between Bally’s and Bellagio at night to watch the traffic and the fountains (some things are just too good to pass up).

This is great. That photo of the Fitz makes me sad. I love the D, but Fitz was my second favorite (after Golden Nugget) while it was there.
Awesome take on the idea! I’ve been going to Vegas for about 5 or 6 years and I can definitely see my preferences changing already.
