Meizhou Dongpo a No-Go? Uh-oh, At least there’s Pescheria and Royce
Meizhou Dongpo not quite coming to Palazzo, apparently
Back in June, we ran a story of Meizhou Dongpo coming to the Grand Canal Shops. Unfortunately, that idea has been put on hold or canceled altogether. When passing by the same space that was to be Meizhou Dongpo, there appeared to be signs of….”not gonna happen.” Where once was a “Coming Soon” sign:
We were instead greeted with other Grand Canal Shops adverts:
We reached out to Meizhou Dongpo some time ago for an update and got none in return. Meizhou’s non-appearance is a shame because I was really looking forward to that Dongpo Pork Belly. I mean, look at it:
Meizhou Dongpo’s “Coming Soon” has also been removed from the Grand Canal Shops website. Never fear, there is some good news. Mercato della Pescheria which we reported on here has finally opened at the Venetian’s Grand Canal Shops, taking the former space of Postrio. Their website offers a view of their menus plus some PR speak that could have been worded a bit more wisely:
An Italian Coast Seafood Market… where you can smell the fresh fish in the air being handled by local fisherman, selected and prepared right in front of you, you can smell the coal burning.
The smell of fish, regardless how “fresh” it is, is not a good smell. On top of that, we could also smell the local fisherman? Ugh. No thanks. Just sayin’.
Also, ROYCE’ the chocolatier we reported on here has opened a couple of months ago as well.
The Japanese chocolate confectionery offers up a shit-ton of fancy-schmancy chocolates.

Ahh the smell of fresh cut cod….I’ll take that over the scents at the Aria or Mirage any day. :-/
Was just at Royce. Very cool place. Too bad they don’t ship within the USA
