Greg C: Riviera Split as Demolition Continues

Greg C shares his photos of the Riviera’s demolition progress…

Here’s the latest on the Riviera demolition. They are busily tearing down the original 1955 Riviera nine-story building now. The Riviera is completely in two different sections and I see some evidence that there might be two implosions at once. One being the main MonteCarlo tower (of course) and the other is a 12-story south section of the old Mediterranean tower. I say this as it has “vent holes” cut into it just like the Monaco tower did before it was imploded.

Here are my first 5 pics. Two angles–from the south at the Indoor Skydiving place and from the Circus Circus garage.

The Riviera is split in two like the Titanic succumbed to the depths of the sea.

Below are close ups of work underway. Seeing the 1955 building come down is truly seeing history as it was the first high-rise on the Strip.

Here’s a cool angle looking at the site from Circus Circus. Plus a close up of some of the “vent holes” on the 12-story section which leads me to believe they will implode that section rather than do a conventional tear-down.

The Monte Carlo tower is slated for implosion sometime in August. The Monaco tower was imploded in June.
