Dupar's Pancakes

Review: The Pancakes at Du-par’s

Blonde4ever reviews the pancakes at Du-par’s…

This article isn’t really a review of Du-par’s; it is a review of Du-par’s pancakes. For many years now I have been hearing that Du-par’s makes the best pancakes in Vegas and according to Esquire magazine, the best in America. I have never gotten around to trying these wondrous things, but since I received a $15 food comp from Golden Gate I decided that I would taste them for sure this trip. Du-pars is open 24 hours, so if you get a burning desire for pancakes at 3 am, you are good.

Du-par's Pancakes

To be perfectly honest I am not a very impartial pancake judge. It has been one of my favorite foods since childhood, and I never met a pancake I didn’t like, so chances are, I will love these too.
I have not set foot in this restaurant since it was called the Bay City Diner several years ago. In my opinion, it looks the same. I love old school type restaurants, so I enjoy the ambiance here. They even have an old-fashioned lunch counter.

I bellied up to it and ordered coffee and a short stack. “Short stack” is a misnomer because the serving is really large.

While I waited for my order, I enjoyed watching the servers bustle around. This place is really busy in the mornings; after one bite of their pancakes I understood why. They douse them with melted butter before they ever get to you, and you pour the syrup yourself. I was in pancake heaven.

I refused to think about how many calories I was consuming and just let the sweet “pancakey” goodness fill my mouth.

Du-par's Pancakes
From Michael Movestro’s Man vs Food moment in June. He went with the Full Stack and made it half-way through.

I actually could not finish the last few bites; they were that filling. As I paid my bill with my food comp, the cashier said, “You still have enough money for a doughnut. You want one?” I figured enough sins had been committed for one day and declined.

In closing I have to say, believe the rumors, Du-pars makes a fabulous plate of pancakes.

  1. good to hear! every time I go to Vegas, I say I am going to try those pancakes. are they available 24 hours?? I will be there Aug 11th for 6 nights.

  2. Like you said, they are filling. I had a short stack and couldn’t finish them either. I like the idea of their fresh squeezed orange juice, but I wish the oranges were refrigerated so the juice was cold. The room temperature OJ wasn’t great.

  3. My wife and I used to end every Downtown Trip there back when it was the Bay City Diner but when it changed to Du-par’s the food changed as well. It didn’t seem to have the same taste. I haven’t been there in years because of that but maybe I will try the pancakes since I too have never met a pancake I didn’t like and you seemed to have enjoyed them. Thank you for the great article, Blonde4ever! I always like your take on all things Downtown. Oh and you can never commit too many sins in Vegas! It’s Sin City. :P

  4. they sure do look good in the pics. a short stack would be more than enough I think.

  5. Ditto on EVERY word of your review! DuPars pancakes are my ‘must have’ every time I’m in town! So glad you have finally enjoyed them for yourself!!
