Sh*T You May Have Missed While Gazing at Fireworks

It’s Sh*t You May Have Missed for the week ending July 8th, 2016

Hey all, BigAZMarty here…back home again after a holiday weekend in Vegas with the weekly news you may have missed.

First, their sh*t…

1. Fourth of July festivities galore. Our own Greg C. posts Rio-view fireworks at Caesars Palace 50th Anniversary/4th of July gala (on July 3rd).  It was actually impossible to get over the pedestrian bridges by the time the fireworks started.  I know…I was at The Cromwell up to the start of the show and phone-camera-shot it from the front between Cromwell and Flamingo.  Very nice show but phone camera was too slow to get good photos of the Red Bull Stunt Team skydiving to Caesars.  It looked like they almost hit the pedestrian bridge a couple of times. Read and view Greg C’s post hereStratosphere was setting off about the same time so I didn’t get to see it but a YouTube search results in this nice short, clear sequence herePalace Station had their big fireworks on July 1st hereMandalay Bay had both a beach party (Slightly Stoopid with 311 concert) and fireworks here. See concert footage here, here, and here.  One of the SLS Las Vegas slot club hostesses admitted she was heading there the next night which was interesting because we’d heard that from one of the waitresses in Taquira and Tequila as well…so popular with the local female working-crowd.

2. VitalVegas has drone footage and a lot of shots of the opening of downtown’s Plaza pool opening (now with hot tub, food truck, and pickleball courts!!!). Also fireworks here.

3. Riviera‘s casino building is now gone..and the asbestos “condom” was noticeable from the monorail. Thanks to VitalVegas for the views here.

4. Lucky Dragon had either a high wind accident on coverings or they are back under construction…VitalVegas reports here. I was at SLS‘s parking garage to see the Palace Station fireworks and we heard metallic banging coming from over there. So, I think it’s construction.

5. Moulin Rouge in Las Vegas…well fudge, this just doesn’t sound promising at all…read here. Courts are never a good place to figure out if you bought it or not, especially if the funding is NOT for buying it out of receivership.

6. Slots A Fun now has four lanes of bowling…check VitalVegas Twitter account and scroll down to the pic here.

7. HA! Derek Stevens has already replaced all the Girls of Glitter Gulch with the “Fringe Bikini Girls of Golden Gate”. See here at VitalVegas Twitter feed.

8. David Copperfield has bought a house in Summerlin for $17.5 million…highest home price paid in LV to date. Read LVRJ article here and check the gallery out for photos of the house. MGM Grand residency must pay really, really well.

9. LV Review-Journal has “Everything you need to know about Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, upcoming at Bally’s Jubilee Theater here. They are looking for both audience and participants. I heard this while staying at Bally’s.

10. OOUCH…businessman who was part of IDB, the non-El-Ad Group that bought New Frontier and other business ventures in Vegas is facing jail time for dealings. Read LV Sun article here.

11. Wynn‘s “Encore Beach Party at Night” expands from Thursdays to Fridays as well, according to Las Vegas Weekly. Read here. I’ll be using the Wynn standard pool from now on for Saturday morning, thank you very much.

12. Beer Pong anyone? World Series of Beer Pong is at Westgate this weekend…read here.  I’m sure bloopers will end up on MTV Ridiculousness soon.

13. Las Vegas Weekly’s Best of 2106 list here if you need to go to the best in 2016 that is.

14. MGM Resorts now has the largest rooftop solar array…28 acres on top of the Mandalay Bay Conference Center. It will put out 8.2 MW, enough to power 1,340 homes. Read here.

15. Red Rock Resorts to re-do Palace Station. This gets rid of the old “Courtyard Rooms” and puts in a new tower in its place…read here.  So much for that history, we reported on last week.  It will take years to get to the tower phase, as they are doing other work first (Bingo Hall, casino expansion, buffet relocation and using the old buffet space for possible bowling and movie theaters).

16. My wife will hate this if the CET people mess it up. Seahorse Lounge is one of her favorite places to get a strawberry daiquiri with Malibu Rum (don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it). Read here the amount of money they will spend on improvements (exactly what, we don’t know yet). I’ve sat in the lower chairs while she’s inserting $20’s and just had a fascinating time going between people-watching and seahorse-aquarium-watching.  So far they’ve done a great job with CP, The Cromwell, High Roller, LINQ remodel…and other new room remodels.  They just need to keep focusing the hotel side, I think….especially Bally’s “Indigo” rooms, Rio’s Ipanema tower, Harrah’s Mardi Gras tower and all of Flamingo. After this week’s stay, wife has pretty much mandated a switch in our “loyalty program” focus.

That’s pretty much it for this week around the other webs…and now to our esteemed Editor-in-chief Michael Movestro for our stuff and more!

Thanks, Marty! Here’s a look at the articles we brought to the masses this week…
