Sh*t You May Have Missed While Scrubbing Off Glitter Gulch

It’s Sh*t You May Have Missed for the week ending July 1st, 2016

Hey, all! BigAZMarty here…with the latest news for our favorite playground, Las Vegas!

First, their sh*t…

1. Say whaaaaat? Diamond Resorts International is being sold for $2.2 Billion to Apollo Global Management. Wait, don’t they own Caesars with TPG?  The interesting thing here is that parcel of land for sale between Showcase Mall and Planet Hollywood has the Polo Towers right behind it….take that as the Hotel Tower and build out a Casino / Resort complex up front with a Parking Garage somewhere and you have about the size of NYNY. The other strip property is The Cancun Resort (Mayan pool complex) to the south way past Mandalay Bay. It could be a play to switch out the Wyndham Time Share sharks that lurk in the Caesars properties to be replaced by Diamond Resorts International Time Share Sharks. All conjecture, of course, we will see once they finish up the transaction and run it for a bit.

2. Robin Leach has jumped between local newspapers; he’s now working for Adelson’s Las Vegas Review-Journal. Hopefully, he’s found his “Niche.” Some of the Sun Staff went with him as well….details here.

3. With all the “anniversaries” coming up, one of the Red Rock Resorts is having its 40th Anniversary. The one that started it all for the Fertitta’s in Las Vegas… “The Casino” or “Bingo Palace” or as we know it today, The Palace Station. LVRJ has a pretty good write-up and where you can still see parts of the Bingo Palace (see the gallery) still standing in The Palace Station.  Some fun history here. They are supposed to have fireworks there at 9 PM on this Friday (usually reserved for Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock Resort).

4. Caesars will be having a BBQ for their July 3rd (50th) Anniversary/4th of July fireworks show…supposedly an all day event. “Soul Patrol” Taylor Hicks will be there as well per Caesars Total Rewards emails. Supposedly all out front near the fountains…weather permitting of course.

5. See The Plaza pool preview via YouTube here. It should be open July 2nd for everyone. Another good party deck downtown?

6. Steve Wynn mentions King Kong on his island in the lagoon? Really, read about it here. That’s a little wild and not sure how he’s going to get rights for that.

7. Mermaids, La Bayou, and Girls of Glitter Gulch have closed for good. LVRJ has a nice gallery here. Vital Vegas was there as well…and, well, read for yourself and thank him for taking the last fried Oreos!

8. Lucky Dragon is starting to put jobs out there for their end-of-year opening. Does anyone need a job by the end of the year? Look here.

You May Have Missed

9. Well, that was short…very short. It was only a five week run for Frankie Moreno’s “Under the Influence” show at Planet Hollywood. They just couldn’t fill the theater I guess….read here. I don’t know if anything has worked in that theater for a long time since “Peepshow.” Just an idea…as it’s Planet Hollywood….play Rocky Horror Picture show up there and do not stop “rice, water, toast” from being in the theater. Maybe have cosplay contests as well that tie to the movie.

10. Big 4th of July Weekend shows to see: 311 at the Mandalay Bay pools with fireworks on July 3rd, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood at T-Mobile Arena with Toshiba Plaza party out through the Park to Brooklyn Bridge at NYNY July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Jay Leno at The Mirage on Sat. Night July 2nd. Cherry Poppin Daddy’s at the Fremont Street Experience on July 2 at 9 PM. I am sure I have missed a lot here…but these seemed to be the bigger ones for the weekend.

11. Vital Vegas has some really good update photos of the new “The Park Theater” (the old Monte Carlo theater that Blue Man Group was using prior) and why they flipped it around 180 degrees here. Original renderings here. Is it me or does the finished product seem much smaller? Maybe when it’s lit at night, and everything is windowed up properly, it will it seem bigger. Not that size matters, it’s more about how they use the theater.

That’s it for their sh*t; now it’s time for our sh*t from this week with Chief Editor Michael Movestro…
