SH*T You May Have Missed: EDC Numbers, Hockey is Official, Fantasy Bets in Vegas, Sportified Poker…more

It’s SH*T You May Have Missed for the week ending June 24th, 2016…

Hey, all….slow news week in Las Vegas (must be the heat) after EDC (everyone must be recovering).

First, their sh*t…

1. Speaking of EDC some interesting statistics from the three-day festival that caused traffic jams on I-15 and looks to have filled the infield very well. Night 1: 135,000 attendees, 30 arrests, 5 hospital visits, 193 medical calls, 6 DUI’s, 3 traffic citations and 7 traffic accidents. Night 2 – more than 135,000 attendees, 39 felony arrests, no DUI’s, 212 medical calls, 12 hospital visits, 3 accidents, 34 people removed from the festival and a fire after a pyro device failed to go off properly and caught part of a stage on fire.  Final Night 3 – more than 130,000 attendees, 40 felony arrests, 212 medical calls, no hospital visits, 3 accidents, 41 people removed from the festival.  Total attendance was about 400,000 for the weekend.  The LV Sun has great galleries of fun in the heat night one here, night two here and night three here.

2. I guess parking fees and other cost cutting is going to net MGM another $100 million in profit this year.  Read here.

3. Binion’s still has some WSOP presence.  Details here. It’s good to see that Binion’s historic location is still relevant for WSOP.

4. Fantasy bets in Las Vegas are continuing down parimutuel path with USFantasy looking to clear another hurdle.  A lot more detail into what this can do for Sports Book betting here.

5. It’s been announced officially on Wednesday that Las Vegas will house an NHL expansion team at the T-Mobile arena. The team name to be announced later as the new owner has backed away from the original Black Knights name. [Image depicted above of Las Vegas Bones was for a design competition, no official new name has been announced]

6. It’s your last weekend to “enjoy” the little slot shops and the bad strip club on Fremont.  Some interesting stats here on the kitschy businesses thanks to Kat’s Report.

7. Circus Circus Las Vegas to change name….meh…just adds in the Theme Park….”Circus Circus Hotel, Casino & Theme Park” leave off the “& Theme Park” and you have the old name.  Maybe they are marketing it to be sold to Six Flags or some other Theme Park operator. MGM no longer owns the Circus Circus in Reno, so it’s not really a multi-location name (sold with the 50% half of Silver Legacy to Eldorado Resorts). Las Vegas Advisor reported it this week here.

8. Hard Rock to get another steak house from the Morton family. Read here.

9. Caesars has enough of a plan for CEOC bankruptcy to move forward with creditor voting, says judge. However, a couple of hurdles remain (i.e. David Tepper and his hedge fund are in the 2nd Tier Bondholders that is getting squeezed).

Parking

10. The story here on how a company wants to “sportify poker”, interesting concept. Maybe some of what Caesars CEO said about getting gambling more interactive for millennials has finally set in?

11. Want to do yoga in a unique setting? Try High Roller yoga in one of the pods; I hope it’s not “Hot Yoga” as the next group of people to board the pod might have something to say about the gym locker smell.

12. After winning the NBA Championship, The Cav’s stopped by Las Vegas to party at the Wynn before heading home to celebrate in Cleveland. See here for details.

13. Oh yeah, and Garth and Trisha shows at T-Mobile Arena this weekend and next weekend…supposedly The Park will have a Garth Party clear out to the Brooklyn Bridge at NYNY on July 3rd as well according to Robin here.

14. Finally….4th of July is just around the corner.  Vegas.com has some info on the fireworks displays (not near the number on New Year’s Eve but, hey, the Caesars one should be good as it’s the 50th Anniversary).

That’s their sh*t, now for ours with Chief Editor Michael Movestro…

Thanks, BigAzMarty! Well, let’s just get it started…
