Low Roller Food: American Coney Island Hot Dogs

Blonde4ever reviews American Coney Island Hot Dogs

Despite having lived next to Detroit all my adult life, the birthplace of the American Coney Island Hot Dog franchise, I have never tasted one. I decided to remedy that situation on a recent trip to the D hotel and casino.

They have never sounded particularly appealing to me; a hot dog with chili on top? When I make homemade chili, it is very chunky. I put in lots of beans and vegetables. I had a hard time envisioning that dumped on a hot dog. I decided I wanted to cross this food experience off my “bucket list” so I went in to try them. I stepped up to the counter and ordered a regular Coney dog with onions and cheese, hold the mustard. The dog appeared immediately in a Styrofoam container with a fork stuck on top. The price was a reasonable $4.59.

“Uh oh. This is going to be messy.” I thought. But it wasn’t. I was able to pick it up with my hands and get it to my mouth without spilling a drop. It was scrumptious! The chili they use is very fine, without any large chunks of anything.

It has very mild flavor which I prefer. When the chili was combined with the dog, the bun, the onions, and the cheese, it was a delicious marriage of flavors. The best compliment I can give the American Coney Dog is to tell you that I was back the next day having another. True Story.

Also in the interest of full disclosure, I must confess to having one of their amazing Caramel Nut Brownies; a decadent delight if ever there was one.

I left the establishment full and content. I had dinner in ten minutes for under ten dollars; sometimes that is exactly what you want in Vegas.

  1. I don’t care for the over-priced dawgs, but I do want to try the brownie. maybe I will grab one, and then walk down the street and pair it with a starbucks at the GN.

  2. My husband and I always make a must to grab a bite every visit..we.most definitely will be back in July for our year wedding anniversary

  3. Yes, I need to try the Dog. Missed repeating the orgasmic experience of eating those brownies on my last trip, and am STILL mourning that. ;-)

  4. I agree, try the chili cheese fries, and true, a pretty unhealthy portion for sure. Haha. That brownie looks scrumptuous

  5. Going door to door from American Coney to Lafayette was one of the top things on my to-do list when I visited Detroit. I loved both. Glad to see this is an option in Vegas, and I didn’t know about the brownie.
