New Names for Monte Carlo and Hotel32, $450 Million Two-Year Renovation

Hey BigAZMarty here…and this is too big to wait for next Friday’s conglomerate of missed items. Everyone has been waiting with “bated breath” on what the plans were for the Monte Carlo and Hotel32 that were alluded to in several financial statements and news releases. So, drumroll, please! MGM announced Friday morning that Monte Carlo will be renamed:

Park MGM

So, this will take two years and $450 million to pull off, and it should be the first of an MGM expansion using the Park MGM name. But wait, there is a little more (and we think it’s specific to Hotel32), there will be a boutique portion that will be run as a separate hotel named…wait for it:

NoMad Hotel

NoMad will have its own valet, check-in and pool area.

Now before you say WTF NoMad? “NoMad” is a New York thing, it’s short for “North of Madison.” Think Mad Men (short for Madison Men). But really it is an interesting partnership considering that the partnership and designers of NoMad and the Park MGM are the Sydell Group. You can see their properties here.

The pencil drawings for Park MGM common areas seem to be interesting.

The room designs at the Sydell Group’s NoMad Hotel (https://www.thenomadhotel.com/the New York one) are even more interesting. I could see all the Jacuzzi Tub’s being changed out to large claw-foot soaking tubs like this below:

Now for the fun. Since the name has been announced, we assume that the new theater is going to be named Park MGM Theater or just Park Theater, and rumors abound now that Vince Neil is not the other headliner to Justin Timberlake…but…wait for it:

LADY GAGA

Now for future MGM news on a side note….they also mentioned the next two “re-do” targets are The Excalibur and the Luxor….MGM likes the Luxor name so they will probably keep the name. However, the way they seemed talk about the Excalibur suggested a de-theming and renaming. The Excalibur’s casino can do with a big overhaul as well, raising the ceiling, adding in better HVAC and perhaps something to get rid of the old remnant smoke smells.

BigAZMarty Out.

    1. Yes and I think you hit on a possible “humorous” Excalibur rename…”Ubiquitous Suites – MGM”.

    1. You know they will add that as a fee to your hotel bill if you like I think “Convenience” add on was the term used….like how convenient it is to charge for something that has been fully depreciated asset wise for several years except for maybe City Center. The only MGM parking garage they have that they actually built is MGM Grand and City Center….the rest came free when buying out Mirage/Mandalay Group.

  1. Too bad Harry Potter is a Warner Bros studio film. Excalibur could easily become Hogwart’s Hotel Casino. They already have the moat, too.

    1. Great idea if they re-theme it but MGM film with a classic castle Ivanhoe made in 1952….castle is this:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doune_Castle
Read down to the bottom on what has been filmed there. Ivanhoe – Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Game of Thrones (Winterfell) and Outlander (Castle Leoch).
Of course if they completely de-theme it like SLS that would leave only Circus Circus as the last family friendly themed hotel in the MGM chain.

  2. Well I’m already a loyal Luxor guest and have fallen for Monte Carlo’s charm especially in the poker room and video poker bar at the front of the casino so I guess it’s time to pound those properties while the offers are still good and the prices are reasonable/gambling limits are reasonable.

  3. Nomad hotel is pretty nice I hear. Can’t see how tourists afford to visit NYC. when room rates are 250 and better. I can see how the Nomad will be a good for the Hotel 32 as a boutique hotel.

    1. There was a follow up article in which MGM CEO was saying room rates will be more in line with Wynn/Encore, Aria, Cosmo. So maybe that 250 on the weekends will not be that far off when they get it completed.

  4. Park MGM seems like an odd choice….. PM.GM? MGM Park Avenue? MGM Park Here for T-Mobile Arena?
