Sh*t You May have Missed: Hooters Robbed, Hard Rock Expands, ANOTHER Arena…more

Sh*t You May Have Missed for the week ending on May 27th, 2016…

Hey, all BigAZMarty again….fun stuff this week so click the highlighted areas for links.

First, their sh*t…

1. Las Vegas Sands Corp (i.e. the Venetian/Palazzo) gets, yeah I know it should start with a P but no, it’s concert and event Arena envy.  Announced they too will build an arena. There’s awesome drone footage from our buddy at Vital Vegas. It shows the paved-over area between Koval to the West and Manhattan Street to the East that may be ground zero for this building. My take is that when they removed all the cheap convention hotels that were once on Koval…they now need to put something back there for everyone to look at and not feel disappointed. Back rooms from Venetian clear down to Planet Hollywood must love the giant parking lot views. At least Ceasars properties can watch the High Roller do the slow motion roll.

2. Something old…something new…new Moulin Rouge groundbreaking. It looks a little like the Lucky Dragon in a way…a lot of history at that location as the first integrated Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Read the old history here from Smithsonian Mag. And, yes, it will be at 900 W. Bonanza just north of the Spaghetti Bowl interchange.

3. Hard Rock tops out the new expansion of their Meeting and Convention Building and at the same time announces the expansion of said building. Quite odd that they didn’t announce it before they started it. But hey, Meeting and Convention space isn’t sexy until someone buys a strip casino and tears it down….yes we are talking to you, LVCA.

4. Hooters Sports Book was robbed, and photos of the suspect are here. Get this he ran on foot, and they didn’t catch him. Insert joke here.

5. If you aren’t doing anything have a hankering of some old slam pit….Punk Rock Bowling festival is occurring this weekend. And if you didn’t see the lineup link click here.

6. Memorial Day Weekend means pool parties galore, except at The Plaza. But, hey, their pool is only about a month away from opening (July 2), and it sounds like a much better version for downtown fun. Now if they can just get everything else fixed from their last ceiling incident (too much rain…weak roof).

7. Interesting…LV Sands is also announcing some possible alternatives to house The Raiders and UNLV Football games–actually on the strip. I’m betting that FAA really slapped a ceiling height on the Tropicana land that UNLV has. So they might have the NFL arena either between SLS and the (still to be sold) Fontainebleau where Wet N Wild used to be (and previously announced land use for a basketball arena and hotel (no gaming) complex or…The Riviera site–which is odd or ignorant.  I would bet money they end up out of the 215 loop or North Las Vegas when done…c’mon it’s the Raiders. Oakland and LA Coliseum were never in fantastic real estate locations either.

8. Something really interesting from back east about Caesar’s Private Equity owners…and what they really thought about it while trying to sell an IPO.  Pixie Dust anyone?

9. If you’re looking to do something for free downtown this weekend….this is always fun. I Love Rock ‘n Roll….c’mon you know you can’t get that out of your head now can you? Also other notable for pay Memorial Day weekend happenings here….or by club here.

That’s their sh*t, now here’s ours:

10. In a very rare Saturday post, Chief Editor Michael Movestro broke the story on the date for the Riviera implosion. This wouldn’t be the only story we broke this week.

11. Movestro did episode 9 of the podcast, with a new Author For A Day opportunity.

12. Movestro wrote up the story on how the “greatest hits of delicious dishes” is coming to the Venetian; they call it Sugarcane.

13. Sammasseur reviews Cafe 6 at Palms Place. The spirit of Kerry Simon lives on!

14. MattyICE finally made it to BurGR and realized that three years was worth the wait.

15. Movestro showed us some of the antique slot display at Main Street Station.

16. Greg Bennett brought us the scoop on the brand new Topgolf Las Vegas.

20. And, of course…this article you’re reading now by yours truly, BigAzMarty *bows*.

Everyone enjoy the holiday weekend! Though it is often celebrated as a weekend of BBQ’s and parties, do not forget to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Due to the holiday, there will be no new posts on Monday, but we’ll pick up where we left off on Tuesday, May 31st.
