Breaking: Riviera Implosion Slated for June 14th

UPDATE 6/1/2016 – The LVCVA has confirmed the implosion date and time! Breaking News: June 14th leaked as Riviera implosion date

As we’ve been eagerly awaiting a date for the Riviera implosion, there comes a new update. We have just received word via Greg C that an employee of Marriot SpringHill Suites has posted the following on his/her Facebook page:

“OK everyone here is the latest updated information on the Riviera. One small warehouse and half of the convention space have been torn down as well as two small parking garages. The main tower is still standing as well as the tower towards Las Vegas Blvd. the scheduled implosion for the large tower will be 2 AM on June 14. I will definitely try to be there and get a good video shot of it for my fellow Vegas Peeps!!!”

Greg C said “Still nothing OFFICIAL, but it would make sense that the Marriott SpringHill Suites employees would know what the date is as they are in the “inclusion zone”–where debris and dust are considered a hazard.”

Greg has been following the demolition progress of The Riviera for some time. Here are his latest pics of the progress in the slideshow below.

    1. We will miss it too Greg. We only stayed there once but always went and spent a few hours gambling. We were there 5 days before it closed so got the hubby and our friend grabbing onto the “butt” sculpture one last time.

    1. The LVCVA is turning it into a flat piece of land, aka “Outdoor Convention Space.”

  1. What does outdoor convention space mean? Turn it into a parking lot and let folks pay 5 bucks a day to go in and out.

    1. I don’t know why the LVCVA feels an outdoor convention space would be a good idea in the desert heat.

  2. The convention center holds several large-scale conventions that need outdoor space to put buildings up, display large construction equipment, and house large tents for events like CES. plus they build temporary tracks for sporting events.

They will build a smaller office structure with space for smaller conventions and meetings as well as provide office space for companies that attend multiple conventions here. The big point is that the convention center will now have an entrance directly on las Vegas BLvd.

    1. Hi Mark! That’s if they get the funding. Right now nothing is funded beyond phase 1. Which is the demo and outdoor space.

  3. My 11 year-old daughter and I marched in support of the Immigration Law Reforms in 2006. The March was in cities throughout America on the same day. The Las Vegas March started at the Downtown Fremont Street Experience to the Excalibur on the Strip. The police shut-down the strip for the march. Although my daughter and were only able to make it to the Riviera; we will never forget the dignified and determined members of our community fighting for the promise of American citizenship.
