Paperposter Reviews: Wayne Newton’s “Up Close and Personal”

Paperposter takes in a show: Wayne Newton’s “Up Close and Personal”…

Last month Vegas Bright ran a story on Wayne Newton’s new show “Up Close and Personal” which was set to open at Bally’s. Well, guess what? I took in a viewing, and this is my take on it.

The total length of the show I saw was an hour and 45 minutes. The size of the venue holds around 200 people. Wayne sings for around 45 minutes and answers questions for around an hour, kind of like storytelling about his life from age four up thru now. For these segments, he utilizes pictures and old video clips; it’s very interactive. Wayne is very personable, he shakes hands and takes pictures with audience members. He’s very down to earth, and I wish all performers were like that.

Although Mr. Newton’s voice isn’t the best as it was (which has been reported before), I totally enjoyed the night. If you had a choice of seeing his home (now a museum) or the show, see Mr. Las Vegas live. He’s still a legend and part of Vegas history. Besides his singing, and taking pics with people, my favorite part was his story about Bobby Darin. You will have to see the show to understand what I’m talking about, but it’s very moving.

It seems, to me, that everyone that went had a great time. They were mostly an older crowd, but still some younger people there as well. Go and see this legend while you can; his stories are great. I’m not going to ruin a lot of the show so I’ll leave it at that.

I’ll probably go back again.

Tickets to “Up Close and Personal” are on sale now at TicketMaster.

  1. He seems like a genuine person. Would like to take a look at his home on my next trip.
