First Vegas Trip

Matty Ice: My First Vegas Trip

Matty ICE answered our call to be an Author for a Day at Vegas Bright. We’d like you to be an author for a day as well, so drop us an email. The subject is your first Vegas trip. So write at least three paragraphs (or more) and include original pictures (if you have them).  And now we turn things over to Matty ICE…

When I stepped off the plane and heard the ching-ching-ching of the slot machines in the airport I knew I was in for something special. I’d turned 21 three months before and this was my long awaited first ever Vegas trip with my dad. After heading down the escalators rain man style we grabbed a cab and were heading towards Mandalay Bay.

Turning out of the airport and seeing the strip for the first time was jaw dropping. It was shining like out of a movie, a pyramid, a castle, a Roman palace! The lights, sounds, and buzz were intoxicating (vodka from the plane helped too), this was a lot to take in!

We got in early so we hit the pool at Mandalay which is an experience all in itself, everything was bigger, brighter and more exciting in Vegas. That night after a couple great Russian Vodka martini’s at Red Square I made it my mission to try and hit every casino along the strip which obviously didn’t happen in one night, but I got to see some great things along the way with my dad: The Bellagio fountains, the sheer size of Caesar’s and the absolute beauty of The Wynn.

We gambled, went up and down but overall broke even on the day, it was safe to say that after night one I was hooked. The food, drinks, sights, everything was amazing. The trip included having a great steak and view at the Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay which by the way may be the best view in Vegas, dad winning a small poker tournament, and myself leaving Vegas up one thousand (yes one thousand dollars!) from a very hot run at $25 double deck blackjack.

My dad and I still take a yearly trip in the summer to Vegas and July will mark our 5th straight year. What I love about the city is that each time we always have new spots to try, we get a few days to disconnect from the daily grind of “real life” and enjoy the best entertainment city in the world! Those are experiences you can’t easily find anywhere else. My first Vegas trip was a whirlwind, the next 12 were as well, here’s to many, more to come!

  1. Thank you! There’s nothing quite like that first feeling of awe when you arrive in Vegas, I hope it never wears off!

  2. Loving this series of “first Vegas trips.” I’ll have to type up my shoe-budget adventure sometime! (all ex-wife references will be omitted to protect the innocent!)

  3. Very nice! Thank you for sharing this! It has got me thinking about my first trip to Vegas, the only one I never wrote a trip report for, since it was pre-TA. Maybe it’s time to dust of the old brain and put it in writing!
