Peeling the Blue Banana at Cheese Burger Las Vegas

Digging in and chowing down on the Blue Banana Burger at Cheese Burger Las Vegas…

Let’s get one thing clear from the beginning: the Blue Banana is a burger. Not a banana, certainly not a blue one; that would be gross. The “blue” refers to blue cheese, the “banana” refers to banana peppers. Though the name of the burger can be a little off-putting, the burger itself is quite tasty. I’m a fan of burgers, I’ll try a burger anywhere, and I especially like when a burger meets or exceeds expectations. No, I’m not a foodie. I just like food. That said, let me tell you about a place my post-show hunger lead me straight to: Cheese Burger Las Vegas.

Cheese Burger Las Vegas

Cheese Burger Las Vegas is a Hawaiian-themed burger restaurant right next to the V Theater at the Miracle Mile Shops.

For a second, I thought this said “Miracle MILF Shops”

From their website:

“We think they are the best CHEESEBURGERS on the Las Vegas Strip, and here’s why! Our Certified Angus Beef ® brand is Angus Beef at its best. Abundantly flavorful, incredibly tender and naturally juicy. Served hot off the grill with Thousand Island Dressing, Lettuce, Tomato and Onions, on our Hawaii-baked Salt & Pepper Buns.”

After viewing V – The Ultimate Variety Show, my wife and I were on the hungry side. Seems right, we walked 3.5 miles that day. I remember being drawn to the big neon sign, I remember seeing the word “burger” in there. I remember saying I wouldn’t plan every meal and just “go with the flow.” This moment was a “go with the flow” moment. We walked inside and were quickly seated. They wanted to sit us right in the front (I guess we’re good looking), but the atmosphere would have been too busy for us to enjoy our meal, so I asked for us to be seated inside.

Our waiter was upbeat and friendly; he took the time to explain to me exactly what “banana peppers” were and told me I can get them on the side to sample and decide if I want to add them to my burger. What first got me interested in this burger was the crumbled blue cheese and guac.

I like blue cheese on a burger if it’s done right. For me, blue cheese does not instantly make any burger taste better, Red Robin.

So we order our drinks and burgers. The drinks show up; the burgers show up. Here’s mine, the Blue Banana Burger:

I immediately try a banana pepper…I learn that it isn’t my thing. Since they were on the side, it won’t affect my burger. So, take that as a tip: have an unsure add-on to your burger? Ask for it on the side. If you like it, add it in, if not, enjoy your burger without it. That said, I cleaned my palate with some water and dug in for the first bite. Impressive! The homemade guac was great in itself, however, combined with the blue cheese it all came together with the rest of the burger. The flavors didn’t cancel each other out. Which I was a little worried about. Instead, it enhanced the ability to taste every flavor the Blue Banana Burger had to offer. Very cool, in my book.

I didn’t get any pictures of the ambiance of the place, so here’s a couple from their website:

You can have a look at their menu here (pdf). Cheese Burger Las Vegas is open Sunday – Thursday: 8 am to 10 pm & Friday – Saturday: 8 am to 11 pm.

Now my question: What burger/place must I absolutely try on my next Vegas trip? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I make it a point to eat here every time I visit Vegas. My favorite is the “Cheeseburger Island Style” with their delicious pulled pork, grilled pineapple, and teriyaki sauce. I love it when they toast the bun just enough to slightly char it. All of those flavors together make for an amazing burger. You’ve gotta try it!

    1. I actually chose the Blue Banana over this one by a hair, I was eyeing the Island Style but I’m sure to try this one next time, I can’t resist pulled pork twice! Does it work well with the teriyaki?

      1. Yes, the teriyaki sauce blends very well with the flavor of the pulled pork. In addition, you get a delicious splash of flavor from the pineapple in each bite. If they give the bun a slight char when they toast it, the flavor of the toasted bun adds another delicious dimension to the burger. When I visited there in early March, I was disappointed when the waiter told me that they had just run out of pulled pork (it was around 8:30pm at the time). I don’t remember which other burger I ordered instead, but it wasn’t quite as tasty as the Cheeseburger Island Style.

  2. I also eat here every time I visit Vegas. 11 out of 11 trips. I love the normal “cheeseburger with an attitude” and getting a drink with the collector cup is extremely affordable. Great place, can’t recommend it enough

    1. Thanks Corey, I might plan another visit to try out the Island Style mentioned by GlennT above, maybe I’ll spring for the collector’s cup while I’m at it.
