Vegas on Two Wheels: Rise and Shine

Sometimes when I plan for a killer ride out into the desert or burn rubber to the next big biker event in and around Vegas, I have to wake up early. Like the crack of dawn early and luckily for me, I live in a city that is always open especially for breakfast. Hey just like my Harley, you gotta fuel up before a big ride, and there is a local gem in the Las Vegas you cannot miss to either relieve your aches and pains for a Vegas night binger or just fuel up for a full day ahead. Join me by mounting up and rip that throttle out to Local Las Vegas favorite called Rise and Shine!

Rise and Shine is a mom and pop, locally owned, breakfast and lunch spot with only two locations! The first location is on the west side of Las Vegas off the 215 Beltway and Flamingo Avenue, and the other in the southwest just off Decatur and the Southern Highlands Parkway. Both are very easy to get to and to be honest; there are not a lot of people up between 5 am and 8 am on a Saturday morning in town, so the roads are almost all yours! By 9 AM, though, be ready for the family caravans trying to find their breakfast spots.

I normally choose the location off the 215 and Flamingo. The outside is nice and clean with vibrant hues of orange, yellow and green. Their logo sits quaintly on the northern, southern and western walls. I felt like the outside represented breakfast. Warm and bright colors to help you get up and get that day started. But stepping into the restaurant was a full on wake up for the senses.

The color combinations continued inside and fused with a slightly weather country home style. Painted wood paneling highlighted the walls and complemented weathered wooden entrance floors that seemed to work well with the stained cement floors of the dining room. But this did not really catch my eye. It was what was above me that sent me into a breakfast dream world.

The lighting that dangled above my head was made from umbrellas! Umbrellas shaped in all different types of flowers. Sunflowers, roses, daffodils, dandelions, and tulips floated softly above my head as the waitress comes to greet us and even that was a sight to see. You see, the waiters and waitresses were not in jeans and polo or perhaps just a t-shirt…they were in full blown PJ’s. Either onesies or two piece pajamas scuttled quickly across the dining floor and what they had in their hands made my eyes go wide, and my mouth start to water!

In the corner of the restaurant were a juice and coffee bar. Fresh fruit was constantly being juiced and drained into these tall glasses where an orange slice was placed ever so gently by the servers to garnish the drinks. I ordered one promptly, but then my waitress asked me if I would be interested in a French Press coffee….My jaw dropped! “You serve French press coffee!?”, I asked. She replied, “The whole press comes to the table! We strive for the best, and we know that the French press gives a much high-quality coffee drink than the normal drip coffee.” I happily accepted her offer, and she was right! The press came to the table along with a timer indicating how long to wait before pressing the plunger down through the hot water.

To top it all off the food was incredible in all ways! I began my glutenous journey by ordering their popular pot bread! It is a cinnamon bun baked in an espresso mug and comes with a simple icing made from scratch but with a bit of a twist! They add a little cream cheese to the mix for a sweet cream twang. Though small, this little breakfast bite was excellent! The cinnamon bun was made fresh to order, so it came out hot and not over powered with the cinnamon paste inside. It was light, fluffy and with the addition on the icing; it was the perfect treat before the main breakfast course.

Rise and Shine specialize in steak! Steak and eggs, country fried steak, steak omelets, steak eggs benedicts, etc. This morning I chose something unique! It was the Philly cheesesteak breakfast! It consisted of sliced rib eye red and green bell peppers, onions, tomatoes and a mix of swiss and cheddar cheese served in an open faced omelet with seasoned home fries and toast.

My taste buds went to pleasure town for sure! The flavor was incredible; no one ingredient overpowered another. There was complete flavor balance allowing each ingredient to shine respectably! The portion size would have satisfied even the hungriest of road warrior! I was able to finish a little over half the plate and gave up hahaha, but the struggle was real! My mouth and taste buds said MORE, MORE, but my stomach said DEAR GOD NO MORE I’M GOING TO EXPLODE!

Rise and Shine

The food, ambiance, staff, and service were all on point; two thumbs wayyyy up for me! I have been to this place four times now and have gotten the same experience with different menu items each time. If you and your gang are about to hit the road for a major ride through, in, or around the Las Vegas Valley, then look no further than Rise and Shine to fill up your food tank!
