50 Shades! The Parody

LuckyDucky Reviews: 50 Shades! The Parody

Editor’s Note: Please welcome former VegasChatter alum “LuckyDucky” to Vegas Bright!

50 Shades! The Parody stars Paul Mattingly, Maren Wade and loads of porn puns.

One might think a parody of something–so many already make fun of–has no chance of being good, but 50 Shades! The Parody is thoroughly entertaining. The Bally’s musical based on the popular 50 Shades of Grey novel delivers the laughs, whether you’ve read the book or not. Just admit it; you’ve read it. You’ve read all three of them. Or maybe you’ve seen the movie. Regardless, if you’re not afraid of a little crude sexual humor, this should put a smile on your face.

The humor element may be expected as it is a parody but the quality of the acting and vocals are the most surprising parts.

50 Shades! The Parody
Maren Wade

Veteran Vegas singer and actress Maren Wade heads up the talented ’50 Shades!’ cast. Performing as ingénue Anastasia Steele, Wade’s wide eyes, and earnest innocence add the perfect comedic element to a character who is ripe for parody.

Without giving too much away, the role of the show’s namesake, Christian Grey, is taken in an unexpected direction by improv master Paul Mattingly.

Paul Mattingly

While his vocals may not be on the level of Wade’s, Mattingly’s physical comedy adds just the right over-the-top touch to an already zany show. The supporting characters also exaggerate their roles enough to remind the viewer this show knows it’s a spoof of a storyline that’s pretty ridiculous to begin with. The frame story of an overly stereotypical book club reading the erotic bestseller adds another layer of humor and some of the most hilarious lines of the show.

50 Shades! The Parody

50 Shades! The Parody just celebrated its one-year anniversary and having seen it four times now; I can honestly say it’s a safe bet for a good time. I’ve seen it with both understudies and the main cast, and all brought their A games. There’s definitely plenty of eye candy to ogle, and luckily the Windows Showroom isn’t too deep so even the seats in the back have a good vantage point. So go awaken your inner goddess, or at the very least enjoy some porn puns and laugh out loud.

Shows are nightly at 7:30, dark Mondays. Tickets are $45-$85. 18+ | The show’s time will be changing to 9:30 p.m. beginning April 19, 2016.

  1. Thanks for the review. I saw this last summer. It was kind of funny as we met one of the cast members at the Luxor pool party.

  2. I didn’t realized this was your first posting. I’m looking forward to more show reviews and articles on VB!
