Wynn Plaza planned

Wynn Plans Outdoor Shopping Plaza

Wynn Plaza, because the strip really needs another mall. What makes this mall truly inspiring is that it will sit across the street from…wait for it…another mall (Fashion Show). *tries to go to happy place for the sake of writing this article*

Wynn Resorts announced yesterday its plans for Wynn Plaza–you know, I can’t believe I’m writing this…I mean, I’ve covered some things here on VB but this really..—ok, ok, happy place.

Wynn Plaza will be an expansive retail complex featuring 75,518 sq. ft. of luxury retail space. Set to open in Fall of 2017, the malluniquely designed complex will augment the existing luxury retail collection currently showcased at Wynn Las Vegas and Encore as well as bring the shopping experience to the high traffic area bordering Las Vegas Blvd.”

Word from the Steve:

“We had 300 or more feet on the Strip right on the sidewalk in unused real estate that was very, very valuable. This represents an opportunity for future development that is quite unique.” –Steve Wynn, chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts.

More press release stuff:

The design of Wynn Plaza will be influenced by European elements, specifically the legendary Avenue Matignon in the Right Bank of Paris, invoking a sense of elegance and sophistication. The selection and flow of retailers will offer visitors a unique experience with interactive and experiential opportunities dispersed throughout the space. Two entrances off of the Strip as well as a dedicated valet service will make the area highly accessible to visitors and interior entrances will offer a natural transition and seamless flow within Wynn and Encore.

The over-retailization of the strip continues.  What are your thoughts on another shopping plaza on the strip? Sound off in the comments below.

  1. I love all the new developments in Vegas but I don’t think there is room for more luxury stores since they have all of that in the Wynn and Encore as you stated. I’m form NY and work on Fifth Ave and I don’t even walk into all the stores I’m surrounded by. Only Time I’ve walked into Gucci was because my boss sent me to pick up something for her.

  2. Better than a yard occupied by trees and flower arrangements, if anything… a few new shops,e.g.

  3. Looking for the April Fools here…but nope, it’s only February. This is an awful idea…just as the barren Grand Bazaar Shops.

  4. The amazing part is that the lease rates aren’t even falling with all these malls. Crystals, Grand Bazaar, LInq, Miracle Mile, Mandalay Place, Grand Canal, Fashion Show, and Town Square all have multiples spaces available and still want top dollar. It’s even more fascinating when you realize that it’s really just the same 150ish stores repeated up and down the Strip.

  5. When I read the headline – i had to do a double take. Another shopping experience… At the Wynn…..

Mind you that the Wynn is doing it….. they seem to be at the end of a trend now on things…

  6. Where are they exactly going to put it? Hmmm I guess we’ll see, but I kinda trust Steve Wynn, at the very least I give him the benefit of the doubt. This guy saved Vegas in 1989:
“Prior to The Mirage’s opening, the city was experiencing a decline in tourism that began in the 1970s” from The Mirage Wikipedia.
The Mirage was the first new resort built from the ground-up in 25 years! And it kick-started an era that ended in 2010 when the Cosmopolitan opened (ended thanks to the Crisis; Encore, CityCenter and the Cosmo were able to be finished but many more were not), so the era lasted 21 years. Then the crisis fucked up everything and we haven’t seen a new resort in 6 years, longest period since The Mirage opened.
Of course a mall won’t save Vegas now though…but if Steve is doing it, maybe it won’t be so bad; if it was MGM then screw them, they are gonna ruin Vegas with all those fees.
