It Finally Happened: The Cromwell Comped Room

It took two years to score our comped room at Cromwell. My review…

So my wife has been drooling over staying at The Cromwell, she loves the feel of the casino and how well it is maintained when we are there during our normal center strip walkabouts. Mind you she is currently a Diamond Status player at Caesars Properties, but for some reason we could never find a comped room…perhaps it was because it’s super limited in room count or the fact that were trying weekend visits to fit in some shows. Nevertheless, we decided to see if rooms were available for her on the Total Rewards site around Thanksgiving and to our surprise almost the entire week after Thanksgiving weekend was comped!!! Needless to say, we were there. And let me say, it looks almost exactly like the promo photos. I also have some observations and tips as well:

I only have pictures of the room, so I’ll start there…bear with me as I had no idea I was doing some blurry cam due to the dimness of the room.

This is with almost all the lights on in the room…but it lends to a nice relaxing feel after being overloaded.

Cromwell

That is a huge headboard, and the mattress is a Simmons Pillowtop…but does not feel like the ones used at any other Caesars property. It has some element of memory foam just at the top of it. You could watch it slowly rise after you got up. There is a small sectional up against the inner wall that I was on a lot…be aware the TV remote range at that far corner is a little iffy. The lamps have a metal wrap that is like a screen door but thicker…hard to explain just what that is. The nightstands look like luggage as does most of the furniture.

Here is a better picture, not as blurry..and you can see the room door on the right. Sectional was Super cozy. The floor was either a high-end wood laminate or actual wood. The table has games built in and is on wheels so you can move it for more leg room. You can barely see it peeking from behind the bed.

This is the blurry cam of the other side of the room…that big piece of furniture is the replacement for the closet space lost in the old bathrooms…..here is actually how much space there is in it.

Bathrobes and slippers, eight hangers and three drawers plus an iron and up above is a tray that is used for turn down service every night.

They bring you two small bottles of water that in Las Vegas makes or breaks the stay. I think we had at one time 5 of these bottles in the room and after a long strip excursion; we drank most of that in one day. On the other side of this is the makeup counter.

Please note the shelf of goodies on the side…these are all items you can buy and are not complementary.

They include spa products and an adult kit that you can purchase. The surprise was the flat iron that my wife fell in love with and on return she had to have one. It is the MUK 230 IR, and it cut her prep time by at least 45 minutes for hair. Next up is the bathroom…which like stated above it really in the same footprint as the old Coast properties.

Yes, a BARN DOOR…and so nice….here is a trick. Close the barn door at night…you will have a much better time sleeping and keeping the room quiet if you are surviving too much of a good thing you will thank me for this unless it’s 120 out. In the middle is the sink area….mirror is the same as the Linq rooms (at Linq it’s just not in the bathroom). Plenty of space but because of sink placement looks small.

Inside and to the right is the where the old Barbary Coast had the shower/toilet…it’s now a separate toilet. And it has the window that opens still in case you had too much Mexican food and don’t want your significant other to pass out.

By the way…most cute picture of a small dog ever:

Now for what I believe was the nicest surprise of all…a full rainfall shower with an additional handheld as well. Suggestion…there are two handles in the shower. One controls which has the water (Handheld vs Rainfall), put it on the Handheld away from you and let it get to temp….stay away from the rainfall and switch it. It will take a few secs, but it will keep you from a freezing surprise if you get it wrong.

The shower had an actual see-through mirror but you have to be standing in the bedroom with all lights off, curtains drawn, and even then once water hits it is no longer see through…so not much lurking on any others allowed. Probably a really good thing.

Now for the fun…we thought there were no glasses in the room…took me a while to find out where they were….it’s a treasure trove!!!

In the main trunk under the TV is a drawer I hadn’t opened originally because it’s dark and I thought it was only alcohol. But see for yourself this is also where the glasses are.

This is where that drawer is..and a huge HDTV to match that you can actually order room service from The Giada from.

So what about the view you ask? Well, ½ of The Cromwell is facing the wall that supports Drai’s. If you can get an even numbered room or a room number lower than X17, that will be more to the front of the hotel. We were in 517, and it wasn’t too bad. This is my only concern: hotel employees on Harleys should not start their cycles at 6:15 AM to go home. Not a good early morning wake up….hence my previous tip of closing the barn door…ends that right there. Oh, and find a better place to put the welding tanks.

All in all the service is above and beyond, we had a hugely enjoyable stay and would do this again. Now, keep in mind, we did not stay on the weekends. We did a Sunday to Thursday stay, and for an older couple that is probably the way to go if you don’t like the Untz-Untz-Untz that is Drai’s.

Oh and one more big tip….come in from the east on Flamingo and go into the parking garage before The Cromwell that will get you to the Valet right at The Cromwell. If you don’t, you will go around the block…as what you think is the entrance is actually a one-way exit. At the time of our visit, this was not signed at all…so it was something to note.

  1. My wife and I did a Sunday-Thursday trip here over the summer as well, it was fantastic. We also arrived around noon and they got us into our room right away with no problem, and the staff treated us like family. We were giving hugs along with tips to the staff as we left, it was so personal! Giada’s is delicious and the pool is the best.

  2. We also stayed at the Cromwell last fall (comped) and was impressed by the personal service. I loved the rooms as well and the bar was a nice touch – although we didn’t partake in any of the spirits. I liked how the turn down service included filling up our ice bucket since the ice machine is only accessible by the staff. My only minor challenge was lack of a desk. The vanity is probably nice for makeup, but not for a laptop.

I must mention this is now my goto place for any table games. I found the dealers and supervisors extremely nice and helpful. Even a player made a bad call and discarded the wrong cards, the supervisor allowed them one ‘do-over’. The player was new to the game.

  3. My wife can’t stand the smell of “Axe Effect” in the casino air….every time I try to walk through the casino she says she can’t stand the smell! In her defense, it is pretty odd.

    1. That was probably me….I forgot the nice aftershave and had to buy Axe as a cheap alternative which meant I dowsed myself in it. Usually The Cromwell has smells that are kinda like freshly brewed Chai Tea…nice Cinnamon / Cardamon blend.

Normally Caesar’s properties tend to more of a febreeze type smell if they have that odor removal system.
