New Show at Caesars Promises You’ll “Never Sleep Alone”

It seems like the folks at Vegas-based Spiegelworld are determined to shock us right out of our shoes…and apparently our pants. The upstart entertainment company that out-cirqued Cirque du Soleil with Absinthe (bye-bye, Zarkana…we won’t miss you) has found yet another way to intrigue, amuse and titillate. Called Never Sleep Alone, it’s coming to Las Vegas starting February 8th.

We’ve kind of gotten used to unique surprises at the Caesars Palace Spiegeltent the past few years. Erotic songstress Melody Sweets frequently puts on pop-up shows there, and they’re always reliable for some bawdy fun. Never Sleep Alone promises plenty of bawdiness, too, but the format is something new for the venue.

Hosted by self-proclaimed “sexual evangelist” Dr. Alex Schiller, Never Sleep Alone is sex therapy re-imagined as entertainment. You read that right. Music, comedy, and spontaneous “blind dates” between audience members make for an evening that might even surpass Absinthe on the Sin City shock meter.

I met Spiegelworld’s impresario Ross Mollison two years ago when he welcomed the VegasChatter team to the incredible but ill-fated Vegas Nocturne at Cosmopolitan. This deceptively soft-spoken gentleman clearly has a wild imagination…and loves to push the limits on social boundaries.

Mollison had his to say about Never Sleep Alone:

This is THE show Las Vegas has been waiting for!
It’s sexy, sophisticated and hilarious–a particularly-Spiegelworld take on immersive entertainment.

It turns out that Dr. Schiller is actually a character, much like the hosts of Absinthe. Portrayed by Roslyn Hart (who also wrote the show), Never Sleep Alone presents a way for strangers to “hook up” without guilt or awkwardness.

Schiller has a bold philosophy and a frank attitude towards sexual relations:

“Don’t waste the best years of your life being fearful and mediocre. It is time to overcome your inhibitions, transform your existence, and become the Exceptional Individual you were meant to be. Tomorrow your genitals could turn to dust”.

Well, let’s hope not. Along with the show, Dr. Schiller wrote a self-help book of the same name, which lays out principles and challenges to make someone “The One”. The show demonstrates those exercises onstage, albeit in an amusing and entertaining forum.

Those preferring to do a little pre-show research might benefit from meeting Schiller at a book signing on February 12th at The Writer’s Block (1020 Fremont St) from 7-8:30 pm.

Ticket-buyers can select “Voyeur”, the safe section from which to watch the proceedings. Or they can explore their daring nature by identifying as “Single”, in which they agree to become a no-holds-barred participant. Singles get preferred seating, free champagne, and the opportunity to “make out with strangers”.

Never Sleep Alone has been playing in New York City for several years. An after-party always takes place at surprise locations immediately following. This gives the audience a chance to apply their newly-learned hook-up techniques in a hip environment.

We can tip you off a little by saying that at least one Vegas performance will continue into the night at Omnia Nightclub (inside Caesars Palace)…and this writer will be sitting in the “singles” section that night…just to do research for VegasBright, of course. Ahem….

If you’re still trying to visualize how sex therapy translates into entertainment, check out this short clip:

Never Sleep Alone kicks off a world tour February 8th and 9th at 8 pm inside the Absinthe Spiegeltent. There will be a special Valentine’s Eve performance Saturday night at 12:30 am. Audience members must be 21 or over.

Tickets are available by following this Ticketmaster link or by visiting the on-site Absinthe Box Office.
