Cirque Plans Changes to ‘Love,’ ‘BeLIEve’

Change is a good thing and a constant. In some cases, the change wasn’t constant enough. Cirque Du Soliel VP of Resident Shows, Jerry Nadal, recently let the cat out of the bag to Robin Leach:

“We’re going to be major overhauling the Criss Angel ‘Believe’ show with him. He’s bringing in all-new illusions, new lighting, new costumes, and we’re probably going to do a name change, too…” – Jerry Nadal

Name changes are a good idea when a show gets really, really, really bad reviews. I’m talking about the Criss Angel show “BeLIEve” – a recent winner of our “They’re Still Around?” award and a winner of our “Worst Shows” category. Criss is in his 7th year of a 10-year contract with Luxor.  I don’t know what new illusions are imagined for the show; but I do wonder if they will bring in more “Cirque” elements, as mostly all of the Cirque elements were removed when Criss decided he was going to produce the show himself some years ago. Per Nadal, the present incarnation of the show will close in April for two weeks and then re-open with the new illusions, lighting, etc. Cirque and Criss Angel will be working together on the direction of the new show.

Speaking of working together, or coming together, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison are working with Cirque on changes to ‘The Beatles Love’ the changes are mostly technological. Per Jerry Nadal:

“We’re going to add elements over the next couple of months, technological stuff, then in June we’ll do another red carpet event around Paul McCartney and Ringo’s schedule for the 10th anniversary.”

I was a fan of The Beatles Love last time I saw it, probably one of the best Cirque shows on the Strip.

Here’s the promo video if you haven’t seen it (this does not include future new changes).

Though it’ll be interesting to see how changes to these shows pan out, in the long run, I have a feeling The Beatles Love will be just fine.

  1. Was not born in the era of the Beatles but this looks really good. MJ 1 was amazing and will def see that again.

  2. I can’t verify this, but read on a few message boards that cuts had already taken place at LOVE last fall, including the removal of Revolution/Back In The USSR. Also that some of the cast had been permanently let go around the same time. If anybody can chime in, that would be great, as it’s been awhile since I last saw LOVE.

    1. Last show I saw of it this Jan during CES had both sets of Revolution/Back In The USSR. I also saw the Insider Access and it was actually very nice.

But when I saw the show in mid Oct it missed Lucy In The Sky I could tell they were having a malfunction they were showing parts of All Together Now from Yellow Submarine on the screens for 3+ minutes.

Still one of my favorites plan to see it March 5th should be interesting to see it mid transition
