Downtowner Motel: VegasBright Receives An Official Response

It’s immensely gratifying when our readers reach out to thank us for information that they find helpful and useful. It’s even more so when the powers-that-be offer a response to concerns that we’ve highlighted. And that’s exactly what happened two days after I published my experiences at Downtowner Motel.

To say that my first visit to this little establishment was “disappointing” would be an understatement. You can read the specifics of that afternoon by following this link. I closed the piece by saying that attempts to reach out to management had gone unanswered.

But yesterday, an email from Maria Phelan, the Director of Public Relations for Downtown Project (which operates the motel) addressed many of my concerns and observations:

“Downtown Project took over operations of The Downtowner in 2015, and we’ve been working to upgrade and improve the property, and recently launched the daily hotel in the Townhouse building. While we’ve been working on improvements to the property for some months, we know it still isn’t perfect, and again I apologize that your stay didn’t meet expectations.”

Ms. Phelan went on to state that some of the photos that I used via TripAdvisor.com pre-date their involvement with the property and don’t accurately reflect its current state. Out of courtesy, I removed those photos from the original article and offered to share some ones from this week that she supplied to us.

She also wanted to emphasize that, despite my eagerness to find another gem in the same category as Oasis At Gold Spike, that was never the plan for Downtowner Motel:

“The Downtowner isn’t meant to be the same tier of product that is offered at Oasis, but again we do apologize for the room mix-up and the inability to reach the front desk by phone when you decided to leave the property.”

The final matter is one that a few of our readers seemed most concerned about: did I get a refund? Well, apparently that is on the way, too:

“…we are looking into those issues, and will refund your booking as you didn’t end up staying with us.”

Ms. Phelan agreed that my review was fair, yet showed a strong desire to share future plans for Downtowner and other properties under their umbrella. And, to keep a dialog open between Downtown Project and VegasBright.

This writer is greatly appreciative when responses of this nature cross our desk. So, don’t be surprised to find another article on Downtowner Motel (or perhaps an interview with Maria Phelan herself) in a future edition. We’ll be eager to see what they have in store for us.

  1. Did she invite you back? Would you go back? Is she willing to share her goals for the property?

    1. Yes, she did invite me to return and converse with her. And I’ll be sure to take her up on that offer in the coming months. Thanks for asking.
